I realize I must be close to the last person needing a way to hold the cell phone in our GSs, but thought I would share a simple solution…
I didn’t want to glue anything to the dash, didn’t want a windshield mount in my view, nor did I want to take up a cup holder spot. I didn’t like the mounts that stuck out of the lighter, or blocking a vent, either…
Thanks to searching a few pages back here at ClubLexus, I found someone mentioned Pro-Fit. On sale for ten bucks, it uses the top right bolt for the radio… and slips between the head unit and dash pad. Super clean! I added the flush Scosche magnetic mount with the black surround. Hardly noticeable, no damage, and most importantly, the iPhone face recognition function works perfectly.
ive been needed something as well. i wonder if it works if u have a case on your phone though
Perfectly. The magnetic mount included a skinny magnet that attaches to the back of the phone. I just slid it between my iPhone and Spigen case, and it hasn't moved.
That Pro-Fit mount is an elegant and super cheap solution, nice choice bbmach.
FYI, I just 3D printed a PopSocket support that's in-view while looking (and cam shooting) out the windshield as well.

Looks cool - and I like the idea of it seeing over the dash for the camera to work. What do you use to "stick" it to the dash?

I'm using 3M 2-sided extreme grip tape to the dash. Not sure how long it'll hold, but it's rated for 20psi holding power and typically can be peeled off to remove.
The high location also allows me to route the Lightning cable through the center console vent.
One feature of your placement is it's more accessible by the passenger. Could be good or bad depending on the passenger,

Can someone please share some pictures or dimentsions of the backside of the pro fit international mount (where it hooks onto the climate control)? They recently stopped selling this mount since the car is so old. I'd really like to make my own just like it.

Not to be funny, but once you pull the radio it'll be obvious. You can get the spacing for the bolt holes, and the depth needed.

Wonder if you can use the SC430 ones. That seems like it's a close enough design for the radio.
