Default VVTi O-Ring

This may be a new one for some on here. I went to replace the weeping vvti o-ring on my recently acquired GS300. All went well until I got the covers off. Low and behold, some jack*** already repaired it...With RTV! Yep, the gear has been glued to the cam gear!
Well Damn. Guess I will have to do a timing belt service with a new cam gear and vvti gear.
Some people just have to try and ice skate uphill.

Probably better off replacing it anyway. The seal repair is very difficult to get right. I did all the research and watched the videos too (you know, the ones that never actually show the seal successfully placed and the gear reinstalled) and suddenly the next scene is it fully together. Ya.. I am a professional tech and took three times trying this to save a buck. By the third time it was throwing codes. Then I just replaced it and all was well. I'm sure the repair didn't go well for several of the video makers. It's easy to show what they do, but you don't get to see it still leaking the next day lol, or throwing codes. I try to shy people away from this repair because it causes great frustration.

I am also a professional tech. (Diesel) I just could not believe someone used RTV in an attempt to seal it up.

I guarantee it was after several attempts and that was the only way to try to get the seal to stay in place. What you saw was a final moment of desperation from whoever was attempting this. After the inner gear is installed back on it smashes the silicone everywhere and makes it all mucked up. I went through it too. You have to take the gear completely off and set it down so you aren't fighting gravity to do it right. No silicone can be in there. And a that point, might as well get a new gear.

You can still get the seals from Toyota. I just don’t have the part numbers anymore but you can find them here on the forum.

Default Replaced my vvti O ring need advice

I watched numerous YT videos on O ring replacement. I tried to mark the gear to make sure I replaced it to its specific position.. I used break cleaner to remove all the oil in the gear and erased all the markings but man was it a pain in the A** to put that vitton O ring in it kept slipping after a few seconds after finally getting the ring ang gear on I screwed in the 5 bolts.. thank god no oil leak from the gear anymore.. the car performance is normal. Just wanted to know could not realignment of the gear give me a p0130 & P0133 code. I replaced the bank 1 sensor 1 twice with OEM Denso sensors and the code comes back after driving on the highway around 70 mph.. after I reset it and drive in town not speeding I check with my scanner andall my monitors are complete and no CEL.. let me add I also Replaced my MAF sensor with toyota OEM as well as a OEM Toyota new air filter.. I've looked up the codes and done all inspection.. I'm just wondering if the VVTI - Gear could be the cause for not returning it to the exact calibration.. Any help will be appreciated Thanks in advance....
