Low beam quit working while driving

I started going from a stop light; low beams shut off, battery symbol on dash lit up. The fogs and high beams work.

It'll be awhile before I can get under the hood. Any ideas what could cause this? My first guess would be check the fuse.

If the battery light on the dash is on your battery/alternator needs to be looked at. One or both are most likely on the way out. Have it checked and replace before you get stranded on the side of the road.

I should have stated, I replaced my starter, alternator, battery about 2 years ago. My battery (autozone duralast) was 3 years old prior to me replacing it two years ago under a partial warranty. So maybe it's a POS and I'll switch brands.

My high beams still work which is the weird part.

Also, the battery light is off.

I would still check the battery and alternator to be sure they are in good working condition. Also check the fuses for the lights to verify they are not blown.

Do you have factory hid's? If so one of your ballast might be bad. It's been awhile since I messed with my lights, but I think the passenger side ballast gets power from the driver side and if its messed up the passenger side won't work either. Maybe something to check after checking your battery/alternator.

What's your voltage, when the car is running. Should be 14.4v.

After knowing you have plenty of power, then work towards the rest of your diagnosis.

Had a spare headlight element. What are the chances both low beam elements went out the same time? Because that's what happened.
