Default 1999 GS400 normal operating temp? Slight overheat?

Hi I just purchased a 1999 GS400 and noticed the cars temp gauge sits slightly above the middle line when fully warmed up.

Is this the normal operating temp?

Also when it’s cold out the gauge stays between the middle line and the second line when fully warmed up.

I plan on bleeding the cooling system and replacing the thermostat later but I am just making sure.

Thanks

Any work previously done on cooling system?
How old is the fluid?
Any leaks?
How old is the water pump?

Mine stays the same distance BELOW that line. Bleeding and T-stat check is a good place to start.

Might depend on what t-stat is being used, 160* or 180*. In all reality, doesn't matter where its at, problems don't happen until you get to that red.

I just got the car but he said he replaced all fluids including the water pump recently.

I am going to burp the system and replace the thermostat when I get the part.

That is a dummy temperature gauge Lexus puts in.
I use a UltraGauge that displays live engine temperatures, and from 140* up to 214* ( the highest I've ever had it go) the needle sits at that exact spot doesn't move.
And if it ever does move up it will go up fast in the red and be too late.

Our cars run a 180* thermostat.

Mine too. I've never replaced the thermostat on my GS400 (knock on wood) in 19 years. Having just said that I'm sure it will go now lol.
