It depends of the condition of your battery and how long you leave it plugged in. Any device CAN drain a battery......it just depends on the current draw of the device thats left on

Chrysler was smart when it came to this as they used the cigarette fuse that could be in either two positions (cigarette lighter always have power or only have power with ignition on) depending on what you wanted.
Make sure if you do run power directly to it you do it right as if you plug in some higher load accessories, you do not want to burn up wiring or cause other problems in other circuits. I have seen those Viair air compressors do this and the wiring becomes super hot you can not even touch it.
Just another idea, maybe you might like adding a additional USB port instead similar to this and wire this in?

When I do this I just ground the black wire and run the red into a ''always on' fuse? I'll only use it to charge my phone. I'm very green when it comes to electrical work.

which works very well for a quick add a circuit power line for low load applications.

Correct. I am going to be installing one of these in my Lexus in the center armrest soon because it is annoying not having power when the car is off. A common fuse tap is this product:

Awesome find. What fuse would you recommend plugging into?

I would just check the fuses with a test light and see which one has power with the key out and the ignition off and tap into that one. A higher rated fuse would be better to tap into but I would avoid using any fuse that has to do with the air bag or abs system.
