If you have a cassette port you can get a cassette adapter and play music like that. That’s what I use.

Does anyone know if this works for a 1999 GS300 with standard OEM stereo? The compatibility list doesn't show it but thought I would ask members here. What changed in 01 that would make this not work?

So what installation did you have to do. How do you work it. Is connected to the radio like a transmitter or taking out anything in the dash?

The answer is literally right in front of you, in this thread. The post above the one you replied to.

You should buy a aux input port, run a small amount to wire from the aux input port to the cd changer plug and burn a blank disc with complete silence on it in a cd slot. For around $5 you can have a aux input that looks factory if you mount it like I did and sound great. I avoid Bluetooth as most cheaper Bluetooth adapters compress the audio.

If we're just going to link to DIY setups, I did JayNunu's on mine, which is better than that blank CD business and my input jack is actually on the head unit.

you gotta take the head unit out to access the cables in the rear, and its just two or three plugs after that. i think the cable running to/from the cd changer now gets plugged into the grom, which in turn will now plug into where the cable from the cd changer used to go, so the grom is installed in-line. might be a third cable for power, but they're all easy to to figure out

you hit the cd changer button to alternate between the cd changer and the grom, and they're both fully functional. the grom wakes up and connects in maybe two seconds. i totally prefer it over an aux cable just for the ease of install and even more so for the wireless capability

The connections described here are incorrect based on my experience. The CD changer is wired directly to the amp in our cars. There is no direct CD audio passed to the head unit. Our head unit communicates to the amp to tell it to play the cd audio or the headunit audio. The Grom connects via Y-cable TOY1 into the 12-pin connector on the back of the 01+ radio. This connector also has two steering wheel audio control wires if yours is equipped. There is no way to keep your CD changer connected when using a GROM BT3 or USB2P device. What I found when leaving both the Grom and CD changer attached was after I switch to CD mode on headunit, both audio sources were heard on top of each other. This is confirmed by the Grom support team as well.
