Default Interest in FIGS supercharger kit for 3uz?

I was speaking to Mike from FIGS engineering and he was discussing his interest in producing a supercharger kit for the 3uz platform. The kit would include intake manifold adapter plate, supercharger, fuel system, fittings, MAPECU3 piggy back ecu which will work with the stock ecu to help with fuel and such. He said the base price would be about $6000-$7000 thesis a base kit. There would be a turn kit available for more with plug and play harnesses and other things that would make it a plug and play installation. The results would be about 365-380 HP & 400 TQ these are just base numbers there are variables for every set up. The stock transmission will be able to hold the power.

I want to do the legwork for him because he has taken very good care of me and is always there to answer my questions and help me troubleshoot when needed. If anyone is interested please post below, so he can see if there is enough interest to make a kit.

You need to understand this isn't just a super charger this is an entire kit with ecu injectors everything you need to make more power, you can make more power with it but you would need to upgrade the transmission if you a re going to make more power which this kit is capable of these are just so it can be bolted up to the car and it retains it's driveability and Lexus like reliability.

Then maybe suggest that he creates a stripped down, less complicated kit. Its quite pointless to sell a kit capable of making a million HP, selling it for a 2 million bucks, but say, you can only use 65hp or you'll destroy your tranny. I've built boosted cars and theres ways to make a much more affordable kit for those who only want to push the limits of the transmission. Probably sell a bit more kits that way too.

What charger is supposed to be used on the kit? I'm assuming since theres an adapter plate, its either a roots or twin screw?

It will be a Magnuson Supercharger I am not positive which one he has the super charger on his 3uz wagon right now, and yes you are correct there will be a intake manifold adapter plate machined that will also come with the kit. Everyone's comments are good I am looking for feedback about it so he can see if he could change something etc.

So if he was to offer a intake manifold plate for sale would you be more likey to buy just that part than an entire super charger kit? I am looking for feedback so please share.

If theres one thing i've learned about high priced items for sale for the 2nd. gen. gs. It's that its rare to find someone who's willing to shell out the dough to put into that car. And the crappy part is, even after the initial 6-7k investment. If that person is not mechanically inclined, they have to pay someone to install it. Yikes! And, the transmission is not going to want to shift at WOT with anything over 6psi without a valve body upgrade. and thats about another 600. Plus labor. Plus an exhaust upgrade is going to be in order. I had my supercharger kit up for sale and was literally selling a plug and play kit. proven to make big power. (engine blowing power) and nobody responded to buy it. And it was only listed for 4,500. I did find a seller but you get my point.

5k+ is pretty much the minimum for a supercharger kit on most cars, I don't know why you guys are so surprised. The SRT kit had an MSRP of 10k. The GReddy kit, which used a Magnusson MP90 retailed for around $7k as well.

There's not a lot you could do to do forced induction much cheaper, regardless of what method you choose.

The complaint is the price to power ratio, not the price for the kit. I'm sure theres a lot of wasted HP potential in that $7k kit. For 65 extra horsepower, ones better off buying some very aggressive cams for far cheaper and/or a collective of other mods for that 65hp.

Question for the OP

Whats the exact list in that kit? I believe the problem is that the kit is capable to do a TON more hp, but cant be completely used for the 430 stock application. I'm sure there are plenty of ways FIGS can strip down the it a bunch. Since the transmission can only handle another ~65hp, I assume its gonna be tuned down to maybe 4lb of boost. In THAT case, theres no need for all the extra costly add-on parts like injectors, fuel system, piggy back management. I don't know the capabilities of the stock injectors since my build is a different vehicle, but in many cases, just adding a charger with very low boost and a good tune is all thats needed.

They would need to do some research and start building different staged kits and include needed commonly fatigued transmission parts for each set of extra hp i.e input/output shafts and differentials; whatever normally fails on this tranny. To make things a bit easier, work with buyers and their tunes, map the tunes correctly, save the parameters for each "kit stage" and instead of selling a piggyback, include those mappings in the cost of that stage, or better yet, keep ECU's stocked already tuned and either sell them with the kits and/or have a core charge for the buyers ECU.

Thank you for your feedback and everyone is completly misunderstanding the purpose of the kit, this is a full kit that has everything that can make more power and pass obd2, it I is truly the ultimate bolt on kit the valve body would need to replaced of course, Mike did that on the 3uz wagon I believe.

I have no idea why everyone is so shocked by the price we don't drive honda civics and this is not some cheap knock off kit this has actual track time behind it and was develpoed accordingly. The stock ecu on any car has the ability to adapt 10%-20% and adjust fuel and timing according etc. The reason you have a piggy back ecu is to make the supercharger more efficient and increase horsepower without the possibility of getting to lean or to rich and causing possible engine damage.

To answer your question that is why I am asking he has a kit in mind but wants to hear the feedback from you the buyers about what you truly want so please keep on giving me feedback but do more than gripe about the price if you are going to say the price is to high please give me break down of what's wrong about it that way i can use the constructive criticisms to give mike feedback, keep the comments coming guys =).

Also the part list is in the first post it would be a bolt on kit with no machining or messing around needed except installation.

Nice idea to be unique however I can install a NX kit with a progressive controller and be way under that price point and gain a solid 150 WHP.... $7K however is more than reasonable for a complete turn key kit for someone that wants it.

I wouldn't think 7k is way out of line for a complete kit that has great potential. The point here is someone is taking the time effort to build and do all the leg work. For what its worth these are not your average front wheeled puller. these are high class cars. Whenever I think something is way off price. I take a moment and put things into perspective. My Bike has 3000 in the front forks alone, and it doesn't have any computer, just some valving and fluid. hell the cartridge alone was 1500$.
So 7k for a kit that was all the trimmings to make a serious sexy street beast, I'm all for it.
Gotta pay to play
