Default Are anti squeal springs necessary ?

Looks like the guy who did the brakes before me on my '99 GS300 didn't include the anti squeal springs all around. Brakes work fine and there's still about half of the pads left. Can anyone tell me the down side of not having them on the car ? Here's a pic of one of the rears.

I would definitely put them in for the relatively small cost you can buy them for at most auto stores. The clip goes on the bottom, and clicks in on that horizontal slide pin and kind of presses against the bottom side of the caliper. This stops rattling and clunking. It also places the pad correctly on the rotor which if not, can form "steps" and grooves formed in the brake pad from digging into the side of the rotor. I had to sand the grooves down for this very reason.

Yeah, I saw that the hardware kits are pretty cheap. Figured they were there for a reason. Any particular brand or part number, or is it best to use OEM ?

Yeah, now that I turned the brightness up, you see where the left half of your pad at the top extends over the rotor?
This is exactly what I'm talking about and what I sanded down with 180 grit sandpaper when I took the pads out.
I also applied a little grease inside where those pins go through the pads.
I use OEM just because I'm partially crazy, but I think all aftermarkets are pretty much very dead close.

Yes, I see exactly what you're saying. I'm doing new pads and rotors, glad I asked the question. Thanks for the input !!
