Hi, all I need some help and advice. I have a 96 Toyota Supra Twin Tubo Auto LSD and I want to put it in my 2003 Lexus GS430. Will it be plug and play install or do I need the supra rear diff housing? I took to a mechanic to install performance parts for cars and he says might need the flanges, or the axles to install it on my care? Has anyone have any issues installing in your GS? Any info and advice will be appreciated. Thank you all for helping me!

The only reason you would need the supra rear axles is if you had the 6speed manual diff pumpkin swapped in. This is because the 6speed pumpkin sits at a slightly different angle and I believe one axle is longer than the other.

However the 6speed LSD internal gear unit itself can not swap into an automatic pumpkin diff housing, its too large and will not fit.

If you have just the auto LSD gear unit, it will go into the oem GS pumpkin. It is just very time consuming. The diff will have to be dropped and removed from the axles. The outer flanges of the diff casing will have to be pulled off and pressed back on as well as the diff case being opened as well, clearly.

The whole auto LSD diff housing pumpkin swaps right in to the GS, nothing extra needed.

The entire unit or the internals will both install directly with no mods. Just swapping the complete diff for the supra one is a 30min job (with car on a lift obviously), easy peasy.

But are you doing it only for the LSD and keeping the stock gearing or doing it for the higher 3.76 ratio change also?

Have you opened the diff yet to confirm it's an LSD? More than 50% of the time the diffs sold as LSD turn out to be open diffs. Just because it came from an auto turbo supra doesn't mean it's LSD as it was an option. As well as Aristo/GS and Soarer/SC diffs get sold on ebay and the like all the time advertised as supra diffs, and it is common to end up with a non-lsd and other gearing options that aren't the 3.76, such as the 4.08, and you very likely don't want 4.08's on a 430.

If you are installing the lsd center section into the stock housing/gearing then make sure you are buying new bearings and seals to do the installation, don't reuse them once you disassembled the diff.

I've had the best luck using Royal Purple 01301 75w140 in those diffs, Amsoil is also great choice, no friction modifier needed with those unless it's noisy slow turning after 1000 miles you can add some in. But if you decide to use a non-synthetic oil for some reason stick with a 75w90.

Thanks all for the good info and advice that you have given me. I will just use the stock gearing for now and maybe in the future switch to 3.76 gearing. I will buy all the bearing and seals as well. Is there any results with the supra lsd? Do I gain little more torque and better handling? Now if I want to change gears to 3.76 what parts do I need and is it easy to install.

The 3.77 gears really dont add much performance you can measure except for in turns, but that is because of the lsd working, not the gears. The gear "feels" better to me, because there seems like less dead spots in the RPM band. Although, you really won't see any 0-60 or 1/4 mile time differences even with sticky tires. Maybe .1 to .2 seconds off, these cars arent light. The only bad thing about the shorter gearing is your top speed goes from 149mph to 135mph and it eats more gas.
To swap the ring gear, it will envolve sourcing some seals and a nut from the dealership. Oh and if the back lash and meshing of the ring and pinion gear have too little or too much pressure, it will either eat them up or shock your transmission too much. Its a very difficult thing to get right.

Why on earth would you swap all the gears when you could simply slap the entire pumpkin right in? You don't even need to swap the flange for the 400 or 430. Everything is a direct drop in.

And YES, I've done this - in my GS400 (two of them), my '02 430 and my '01 300

maybe you or I misconstrued something, I have Supra TT diff carrier only , and I'm keeping stock gs300 gearing. Drop in swap
, ALSO for our INFO , gte/Supra diffs , driveshaft, etc share flange size with any 1/2/3UZ 400/430
