Default 1998 gs400 radio stoppen working

so here is my situation. I got a 1998 gs400, I put in a 2001 dash with harness and everything, the radio that came with it is no good so Im looking for an opinion on what to do. Should I get a replacement with a same Pioneer factory unit or go ahead and get something aftermarket? But I've heard that sound quality would be bad because factory amp wont work. Im located in Clearwater, FL.

What is your goal? Best sound possible or just a working radio?
What is your budget? Can you / do you want to spend what it takes for a full aftermarket setup?
Have you searched/looked at what it takes to accomplish your goal? The 2GS forum has many threads on replacing the OEM setup with an aftermarket unit. See the FAQ/DIY thread for guides too.

I personally would start by making a shopping list for each option and then decide where I wanted to go with the project.

my goal would be to keep same sound quality with aftermarket radio.

I swapped in a Pioneer double DIN head unit in my 01GS300 and wired up the speakers directly to the new unit. The sound quality is much better than the OEM radio. You will have to install a small amp in the stock location to power the sub if you like.
You also get backup camera, Bluetooth wireless connection and USB ports.
You may want to go that route. I am enjoying mine.
