Default Radio upgrade

Hello all,
Looking to change my stock radio (no nakimichi, no nav) to a double din radio with screen that can accommodate today's latests smartphones. Running a 99 GS300 that I've been neglecting for about a year but now that I have some time on my hands, looking to get her up to today's standards. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

^ i have the older model of that headunit, and i love it. I have an iPhone so Apple Car Play is what I want, it is great. I think Android Auto is even more flexible. Bluetooth connects automatically, and connects fast.

Apple Car Play is great because if your phone is plugged in, the maps/navigation will be displayed on the screen. Same with music, you can navigate through playlists on the screen. I'm sure Android Auto is very similar

That's actually one of the two I've been looking at, the other being the Kenwood DDX9903. The only thing I see that I'm not crazy about is that Crutchfiled states "When you replace your factory radio, the factory subwoofer and subwoofer amplifier (if present) will no longer work. To bypass the factory amplifier, extend the wiring harness from the radio to the amp." - So it seems that I lose my sub if I go down this route (either head unit) and assume will sacrifice the integrity of the over-all sound. Hoping someone can chime in and shed a little light on the matter as keeping the sub would be ideal.
Thanks !

times may have changed, but when i did go to Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT four years ago, they did not make a harness for the GS300. The bypass was needed to keep the subwoofer.
