There must be a CEL on with a code. This can be a few things, but a code can narrow it down a lot.

MIne did this 2 times and from my searching our cars cant drop to low on gas. Both times mine did it, I was below a 1/4 tank. It started right back up though. After filling up each time it stopped. The manual states to not let the tank go below 1/4 tank.

Just my .02

There were two occasions when that happened to me, once was a vacuum leak and the other was a fuel pump. Take it to the dealer and have them do a fuel pump pressure test, ESPECIALLY if you're at 1/4 tank and it stalls. Once you fill up past 3/4 tank, you won't notice a difference. But when it gets low it will stall. Happened to me last summer:

Edited to add: Btw, I drive a 1999 GS400 and the fuel pump failed at 218,300 miles. So if you have high mileage and haven't had yours changed, have it checked out.
