Default Help with wheels on 99 GS300

Bought my '99 GS300 with snow tires on the factory 16" rims. They're a little worn, so I'm thinking of getting set of rims and tires (all seasons) so I can swap them out in winter. Any suggestions on what size rims and tires I can use without any modifications ?

Ok, I'm confused. So you're telling me I can put any of these wheel sizes on without modifications ?

20's is doable, but IMO it doesn't look right and can't imagine they'd fit well

I'm about to put 19x10 in the rear and 19x9 up front on mine and they'll fill the guards well

If you're not worried about looks just get some 18's they'll fill the guards enough and shouldn't give any clearance issues.

Is your car lowered or factory height?

It's bone stock. I think it looks fine with the 16s, but didn't know I could go bigger. Is there a down side to going bigger ?

Harsher ride. Reduced fuel economy and performance if the wheels are heavier.

So it's purely a looks thing, in which case I'd be best off going with stock size then ?

Larger wheels mean a shorter and therefore stiffer sidewall, which is better for handling. People also usually go wider, 8" at the least, to run a wider tire. The factory 17" size is 17x8. 16x8 with a 225mm tire was available on the GS430, but the base 16" is 16x7.with a 215. 16" also looks very small and cheap on the GS.

It really depends on your long term plans for the car. If you are using it as a daily driver and you're happy with 16s you can noodle around with tire sizing within that size. Smooth quiet ride will generally come from taller sidewall and 16s. 17s are still good but you're at a more aggressive tire and beyond that... well you see.

CL has its own tire size calculator and there are a number of them online too. The thing to remember is your tire's circumference and your wheel offset. Really gotta be close to factory with these numbers unless you're into heavy mods and it's a hobby/display/stance car.

Thanks, most helpful post yet !! Mine is a daily driver and don't care about looks or bling factor, so I'm gonna stick with the stock sizes.
