Default 1998 GS400 Supra auto LSD need advise/help

So a couple of weeks ago I bought a 98 Gs400. Car is pretty much stock so I want to do some mods to improve some things on it. I went with LS400 front brakes and now I want to install an LSD. So I was able to find an LSD unit off off 93-98 TT Toyota Supra Automatic. Its not the whole diferencial just the lsd unit. I know that there are some treads about similar swaps but most of them are either about gs300 or people are swapping the whole diff assembly and go with 3.7 gearing. Questions that I have: can I just take the guts out of my old diff and put in the LSD unit and keep my currest stock gearing? And if I can which parts do I need to buy to possibly ruild the old diff(seals, etc.) and where?

if there are similar posts like this feel free to paste them here so I can dig into it deaper. Like I said Ive been researching for a white about this specific swap. Thanks

That's what I have on my '99 GS400. I replace the whole pumpkin, switching out the stock gear "Can" be done but it's quite a lot of work I hear. You really have to know what you're doing.. Most people just use the 3.76 gearing, it's pretty usable, really livens the car up.. Personally, IMO keeping the 3.76 changes the car night/day from stock..

I would swap the whole diff but the guy was only selling the lsd itself.
My friend is a mechanic so he will help me oit on this.
so basically its doable right?
do I need to get any extra parts?

I read an article someone put together one time about the difference between our stock diff. vs. the toyota supra twin turbo diff. Right of the bat, you could clearly see the ring gear was substantially larger in overall size. I suggest you look into it further or someone chimes in with credible info If you search the forums you'll find someone on here who has the lsd but with stock gearing. good luck. I bought mine from a JDM place in Dallas Texas. I picked up the complete unit for 800 I think but not sure. Its worth it every day when I get sideways without effort in a turn if I punch it.

Like I said, It Can be done but I didn't say it'll be easy. I installed mine 14 years ago, I did as much research as I could at that time in 2003 (the information at that time more limited than now). It's been many years but at one time I wanted to change back the stock gearing and keep the Torsen LSD unit. I read somewhere something inside is different from Stock Lexus Diff vs Supra LSD. I don't know all the details (I'm not a Gear-head). Whatever BlackGS said sounds similar to what I read, and it's been over 10 years since I thought about this.. I remember at least one person attempting to do this before. I advise you to do some searching on here and read as much as you can before proceeding.. Sorry I Couldn't help more. Good Luck..

Edit: (Correction) I installed mine 16 years ago in 2001 so my car at that time only 2 years old and not a lot of info on it at that time except the swapping of the pumpkins..

No reason to, or toyota would offer the additive as well.
