'98-05 GS300 Supra Caliper Upgrade- Complete

Greetings Everyone, I just finished the Supra Caliper upgrade at which I bought the new/remanufactured ones from AutoZone, Hawk Pads ordered online, and I used drilled/slotted Supra Rotors which are zinc plated for rust resistance. I kept my GS300 Dust shields in place, just cut them back about one to two inches, and bent the edges on the top, and bottom from curved to straight. If you have any questions, need a write up, or such let me know be glad to help anyone looking to do this.

Could you please post photo's.

Thanks

Here is a shot before getting started with the old two pot, stock '98-05 GS300 Calipers.

Here is a photo with the caliper, bracket, and old rotor removed. This is also where I cut the dust shield which is why there is a straight edge along the right side of it. Used my bolt cutters to begin cutting, then switched to metal shears to finish. Tried to make it smooth as possible. Used my grip pliers to straighten the edges on it. There are about (5) 10mm screws to remove which allows the dust shield to move around, rotated freely to allow better access. If one desires to remove it, then it must be cut.

Here is the finished product of the new supra calipers, hawk pads installed which can be assembled before installing them on the rotor. (Side note: if ordering from Auto Zone ensure there is two guide pins included in the caliper hardware. One of my calipers only came with one, so I went to the local hardware store, and got 4 1/4 inch guide pins that matched the originals that came with the supra calipers). I cleaned the rotors with brake cleaner. You will use the old bolts that were in the old GS brake bracket, they should be 17mm both. Everything bolts right up. Bled them with the one man bleeder which you can get from Advance Auto, or Auto Zone $8.00 or so. These calipers, brakes, rotors stop great. I recommend when ordering your brakes order them online because Advance Auto, and Auto Zone may not know to differentiate between the Naturally Aspirated model versus the Twin Turbo model. Naturally Aspirated calipers are 2 Pot, Twin Turbo calipers are 4 Pot. You want the Twin Turbo brake pads for the 4 Pot caliper, Hawk preferably. I reused my GS300 Brake lines.

Very Important

**Remember when ordering you are no longer ordering parts for a '98-05 GS300, the parts will be for a '93-98 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo**

Part Numbers as Follows

Front Driver Side Caliper: Part Number: C9373
Front Passenger Side Caliper: Part Number: C9372

Hawk Brake Pads: Part Number: HB215F.630-199 Supra Twin Turbo

Nice upgrade. Thanks for the tips.

I did this upgrade over the summer, it's crazy how much of a difference your braking power is with these calipers. I went with oem pads which was a mistake because they create so much dust:( I got some ebc red stuff I'll put on over winter.

Good details. I never thought to purchase calipers from AZ. What was the price?

Yeah I agree the stopping power is a big difference. I tried to look up EBC's pads, but it was hard for me to locate the part number for the supra brakes on their site. Let me know how those breaks perform.

Price for them was $82.99 each plus $55.00 core charge for each. End result they were $164 after turning in my old calipers at which I received the core charge back.

Yeah If I remember correctly, it took me awhile to find the part number for the twin turbo as well. Here's the part number for future reference.Attachment 374513
