Default A Thread about Turbo'd Engine Mileage

Hey Club Lexus, I've been looking to eventually turbo my 2000 GS300.

Now, with a lot of makes putting a turbo on a car with 121,000 miles would be a death trap to the engine. I've seen a few members of CL turboing their cars with more miles than I have on my car. (EvolvedGS3 turbo'd his with 163k miles) So I'm just curious, what is your opinions on the mileage of the engine in regards to a turbocharger?

Considering the health of the seals and gaskets would probably be my concern and having the engine rebuilt would almost be necessary in my opinion. Regardless of the mileage of the transmission, they all need additional work if you do a boost. If I did turbo my car, I'd be ideally looking for around 400-450HP.

Thoughts, comments, questions, concerns?

The 2JZGE are pretty tough and will handle a lot if you take care of it. My 1997 SC300 with factory 5sp manual at 147k was converted over to NA-T and I loved it. I know I was crazy to turbo a really rare car where only around 120 were made but it was just too slow for me. Especially coming from a turbo NSX. Just make sure your current engine is healthy enough for a turbo and go for it. I eventually sold my old 97 SC to my brother in law and now has passed the 235k miles mark and the turbo is still going strong.

Here's my old 97 SC300 5sp.

But if you really want to do it right, you might look into doing a full swap with a 2JZGTE from a Supra or Aristo like me. Lol

The 2JZ-GE VVTi has thinner rods (and maybe a weaker crank?) that other 2JZ-GEs iirc.

Toyota makes their engines stout so I wouldn't worry about mileage as much as previous owner maintenance. I just recently a MKIII Supra Turbo with 257k miles and the car ran and pulled perfectly
