Exclamation car runs, steering dont tilt, can't shift in gear

help!

2000 gs300, stepped out of car and couldn't lock w remote. Car starts but steering wheel doesn't tilt down, no lights, dashboard dark, mirrors don't tilt, can't shift out of parking, can't lock w remote. Horn is working, and if I leave a key in ignition and door open it beeps, and if I pull turn signal the high beams go on... Disconnected the battery, and reconnected back but nothing changed. It's late and dark, so I will check all the fuses in the morning, and maybe try to shift in gear (override) and see if it drives (because the car starts).

Anybody experience anything like this? Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!

U can try a new battery and that's it from pep boys don't let them do ANYTHING else, sounds like a multiplex problem with the bcm possibly...

I was able to start again in the morning and by overriding gear, shifted and drove to Pep Boys because it's Saturday and they are the only ones open close by. They haven't called me back yet.

who should I take the car to then? Dealer?

Yea dealer is the only ones who can replace that for you, unless u know which module on your car is bad but their are several and it could be frustrating finding which one it is and programming it to your car, I would honestly bite the bullet on that and take it to the dealer, have pep boys check your battery though if it's weak replace it and your problem should go away, make sure your battery terminals are clean, I replaced mine 2 months ago, they sell em at advanced auto...

Pep Boys charged me $350, said they had to change fuse, then remove my battery to fix wiring ... and said it took them 2 hours. Never would thought that hourly labor at this place is $114.00 per hour..... I hope it wasn't just a fuse.... and I probably should have stayed around there.

oh well, I'm back on the road.

My bet is that it was one of the main fuses. I would not let pep boys open my car door.

I guess I learned my lesson... the problem was that it was on Saturday and there were no other shops open around... i'm sure they got me... I hope this might serve as a lesson to others!

I'll rather spend thousands of dollars at the dealer than go to pepboys. I'll never let anyone go to that store for anything. Staying away forever.

Wow 350 to change a fuse good job PB!
Your way better off finding a local auto mechanic.
We all get ripped at one time or another.
Best way to combat that is to use the internet and learn.
