Default Is this a bad alternator or?? Help this electrical idiot out!

I noticed my car start making a slight whine from the engine compartment. Very slight. The next day while driving, I got the VSC, VSC OFF, ABS lights on. Shortly after, my radio went off. I immediately killed the climate control...and the radio went back on. So I'm thinking battery/alternator.

So I did a check. With car off, voltage off the battery was 12.1 volts. I started car, turned on headlights, A/C on full, radio on etc. Car was revved and held to 2000 RPM. Voltage dropped very slowly to about 11.5, but stayed there.

I'm still thinking alternator. But I was able to drive home from work at night with headlights on and I made it no problem. Drive was 20+ miles.

Is this the alternator on the way out? I suspect yes.....but just want confirmation from the brain trust here since I'm a bit of an electrical idiot.

Thanks!!

Replace or rebuild your alternator. At 2000rpm you should be getting close to 14.2 volts and drop down to no less than 13.2 volts.

Good luck.

I agree with FrankT. Your voltage should never go below 13 while engine is running.even with all the accessories on.

question: how did you check the voltage?
is this something that can be checked/diagnosed at auto zone? i'm dealing with the same problem.
