Default Sporadic Knock Sensor P0325 CEL

Just this past week, week and a half I have been getting P0325 for bank 1 knock sensor. It came on initially about 10 minutes after filling up the gas tank. Cleared the code that evening and the light did not come back on for another day. The light came back on in the morning on the way to work, but went off on it's own when I left work. It has been doing this now for a week and a half or so.

I have searched (Brian) using the CEL code, knock sensor, etc. I've seen a lot of people saying that the sensors don't go bad, it must be something else, etc. Mind you, I have only cleared the code once with a scanner and since then the CEL light comes and goes on it's own.

If need be, I plan on buying both sensors and just replacing both while the manifold is off just to make sure everything is good.

I just filled the tank up yesterday and to my surprise the light turned off. However, it came back on this morning. Any recommendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated before I just buy the sensors and replace.

Im confused? So Your getting knock sensor code, and your asking if replacing the sensor will correct the issue?

IDK, but a little common sense would tell you thats what you should do first, No?

My apologies for any confusion. Hence the reason why I posted up. The code has not been consistent or staying on for long periods of time. Yes, common sense would say just replace it, but after look through threads on here in relation to the code there is a good amount of varying information.

I was curious as to if any one might have had any similar instances or problems with the knock sensor issue that I am experiencing now.

i would say replace it. Sensors don't always fail in one shot. save yourself the headaches and change them.. If you get a cell back continue to diagnose, but at-least now you will now know that its not the sensors..

I've come across a couple of the starter threads for reference and DIY's. I also have the Lexus service manuals in my possession to aid me.

check for defective wiring from the knock sensor. if wire integrity checks out fine that knock sensor is defective.

That's pretty much what the service manual says when checking the sensor. Started reading through it last night. It states to check continuity between the wire and sensor housing.

Default Sporadic Knock Sensor P0325 CEL

Dear 02Legend,
I followed your thread on this - Sporadic Knock Sensor P0325 CEL. I am wondering what have you done after some discussions of replacing your Knock Sensor. I just had my P0325 CEL showed on and off itself from time to time for about 1 month now. My car is 2001 GS430 with 213k miles on it already. It is good car. I want to see if I can fix this p0325 problem my self. Because it is not on all the time, I am not sure a new sensor will resolve my problem. I used code scanner reset it and it is find until it happened again. It seems to me that P0325 will lite up when I try to accelerate hard. If I accelerate moderately, it is ok. Do I have sensor problem or some other problem. I am interested to see what you have done on your P0325 CEL problem. Thanks!

julnwx,
The only way to fix it is to replace the sensor. And since you will need to remove the intake manifold you're better off replacing both at the same time. You're doing what I did and kept clearing the code so the car would drive ok, but if you pay attention your gas mileage has dropped quite a bit, as mine did.

I bought the sensors online and had my mechanic change them for me as I was to busy to do it myself. If you search around there a quite a few different threads on this and a couple walk throughs.

02 Legend,
Thanks for your information. I will need to change both of them. I did search and found out a lot of good discussion on how to remove the manifold. I think that I can do it. I also found a lot of place to sell GS430 Knock Sensor, price range from $40 to $200+. Dealer will be the place to be sure we get the right one but I hope can spend less money. Where did you order your knock sensors? Are they expensive? Are they working without problem any more? Thanks again!

I found OEM sensors on eBay and bought them there. Granted it only saved me about $20, give or take a few dollars depending on shipping. You can get them for $90 each on Sewell after you create an account and use your username here, you'll get a discount. Mine have been in the car since since April and have had no problems at all. The first thing I did notice after changing them was that my gas mileage increased by about 2mpg. Not saying you will get the same results but I was told at one point that my car was running rich but the dealer could not tell me why or what sensor at the time, but I believe it was the knock sensor since now my mileage is better.
