baby car seat issue
 

somethi:sad:hey guys well first of all gotta let you know my wife n I are expecting a baby in two weeks. we are super excited an getting everything ready. just put my travel system together an went outside to try to instal the car seat base. I ended up buying the baby trend jogging system that my wife wanted. Well I looked at the base and realized there are two hooks/clamps that I can't find a place to put them in. I wonder if our gs maybe don't even have this hooks for the car seat and if we only use the safety seat belt? Can anyone help me if I'm just not seeing the clamps somewhere???? Thanks back in my days you would just wrap the safety belt in the base and call it good. Well I always thinks that if somethin is there its got a purpose. So I want to see if maybe our gs are too outdated with child safety?? Here is a picture of the exact car seat I have .

I think you have to take it to the dealer to install the hooks...I was reading apon this also...

depends on the year, id your car dsnt have hoks your going to use a seatbelt to hold the base, it came with a tool for this

If the base can only be secured by the hooks (which most newer cars come standard with), then you may not be able to use this seat if your car lacks the steel hooks. I know that the Highway Patrol here in CA and some fire dept's install the seat for you.

bbrolex thanks I have a 98 N I now know they don't come with hooks. even gettin them at the dealer installed sounds like a great deal price don't matter Since my lil boy doesn't have a price either just care about his safety.

I had that same one for a short time... Unfortunately the only way was to run the belt through the lil hooks for rear facing. I ran both the chest and lap strap through there together. On ur baby gets bigger and can go forward facing i believe u can run um through the back of the seat. Cant remember cause this was right about the time we changed seats all together.

I use a recaro in my 03 that uses that style clamp/hook

Yea, just use the seatbelt and run it through the base and just secure it that way. The "latch system" which is what the hooks and rings you guys are talking about comes standard on most cars now (My 03 Mazda protege5 has it, Awesome!), but i know my 2000 dosent have it, requiring me to use the seatbelt method. Its works great but you have to make sure its tight and secure. Take your time, and try not to move the base in and out cause you have to redo the fitment each time. Sffd103 is right, you can take it to any CHP or Fire Dept and they will install the seat/base for you. I think they even show you the proper way so you can do it yourself again later. I now have the forward facing Recaro in the GS and the seatbelt method works great . How ever I really would prefer the latch system. It's so much easier.

the LATCH system was implemented in 2002. I think it's federal requirement for cars manufactured since 2002 to have some sort of provision for LATCH-equipped infant and toddler car seats. I know that even Mazda Miatas have the anchors. My 2003 GS has them. I've used them on many occasions.

That said, every infant and toddler car seat has provisions for installation without using LATCH. please read the owner's manual of your car seat and install per the instructions. If you don't install it properly it can do more harm than good in the event of an accident.

When an infant/toddler car seat is installed properly, you will not be able to budge it...at all...by exerting lateral force on it. My wife and I opted to take the 4-hour car seat safety course at our local hospital when our first kid was on the way. Yes...they taught a 4-hour course on car seats. It was a bit overkill. But my main take-away was that 99% of baby seats on the road are installed poorly. They showed us how to do it properly and, believe me, it's not easy. To install my daughter's rear-facing infant seat I literally kneel on it with my full weight and press on it by arching my back against the ceiling of the car to put even more force than my own 160lbs. Then, and only then, can I tighten it well enough that it won't move.

Same thing for my son's front-facing seat. Though, that one is a bit tougher to get immovable because of how tall it is and the fact that it does not use LATCH.
