Default Car Shopping

Good morning, I'm new and this is my first post so be ez on me. First I would like to say it's an honor to be amongst all of these great minds. That's why I'm here today to some input on a car purchase. This afternoon I suppose to pick my up the new lady of my life, a 2003 GS SD Char with blk int it has 66000 on it and a dream to look at and drive. My dilemma is Carmax wants 16599, is this over priced? Also it has two owners clean carfax, fresh tires, luv the wood grn steering wheel, they do
a good job at inspecting a vehicle. On the other hand should I go slow this will be my first lexus. I'm also looking another 2003 GS SD for 9000 with 123000 on it wht with blk int small dealer. Or a 2006 GS 430 with 128000 on it for 15450 slv with gry int sitn on 20's. Hope I didn't bore you guys jus lookn for advice........I need a Lexus in my life. The GS with 123000 on it is at a Toyota dealer and the 2006 430 is at a small dealer.

The benefit of buying from a dealer is the inspection and the way they have to have the car in shape before legally selling it. But they are in the game to make a large profit no matter what. I looked for a couple months before i finally pulled the trigger on mine. I paid $5000 for '00 with 198,000 Miles. And it was the only GS400 on craigslist for the whole time i was looking. The carfax was clean, and the major maintenance items from Timing belt plugs, gaskets had all just been done with receipts. There was probably 15 GS300's available from Private Owners, but i wanted a little more beef on my burger so i held out strong on the 400. He originally listed it for $7200, so patience and cash talks once i finally got him down. If you are financing, then maybe a dealership is the way to go. If so which is the best bang for the buck. These cars will run forever if taken well care of. Regardless, drive all three and feel them and make the decision. What color combo do you like the best out of all of them? You will figure it out, but thats my two cents. All i am saying is don't be too afraid of the mileage on a GS as they are built to survive

I would be looking at which one has the records of maintenance on it. 123k is not bad at all especially if the carfax shows 90k service etc..

That's way overpriced for the SD. $13000 tops if it's in MINT condition. I think $10-$11K is more reasonable.

The white "unicorn" could probably be flipped for a profit. The white on black, from what I see around here, is pretty rare, and sought after.

Given those prices i would look for a private seller, toyota motors are pretty bullet proof so don't let the milage scare you. If you are not used to working on cars then you can always take a private party car to an independant mechanic (or even the dealer ->$) and have it inspected. I love lexus cars and have had a few over the years, i just bought my first GS and to put the prices in perspective i paid $4500 for a 2000 black on black car with a perfect exterior and interior with 155K miles. it has given me no problems and it had the timing belt, water pump etc done right before i bought it. Your money will always get you more in the private seller market where typically people are selling at a loss versus the dealer who is ALWAYS selling at a profit. THe only car i have ever bought from a dealer was an 07 Yaris new from Toyota but that was for my mom who can't fix it herself. that's just my 0.02 good luck and you will leve the lexus whatever one you decide on.

Price seems high bro...

I've purchased our Infiniti from Carmax and I can tell u the experience is the best hands down. After the purchase you have a 30day window to address any imperfections/repairs/replacements and they will cover it all at no expense. I even almost got 4 brand new tires but i had just a lil more meat on them then what was required to replace. ... This being said it still wouldn't be enough to compensate for that sticker price and carmax doesnt budge on the listed price.

Also as in the previous post... I got my 1998 gs300 with 120k a year ago for $5400 with all the service records from both previous owners. Def don't let a lil mileage scare you. You will find more for your money in the member classifieds on here ^_^

almost $20k for a 10-11 year old car??? Come on, you alread know that's way over priced. Who in their right mind would spend that amount for a car that old. I would go private seller or talk them down on the 123k miles car. Also if you are going with the 3rd gen GS, go with a 07 and above. The 06 had some issues and they corrected everything in 07...even providing it a stronger V6 motor.

Lol good find bro! But yeah op, that car is way way orverpriced. The dealer probably gave him 9-10k grand if the original owner traded it in. But they stupid for thinking someone gonna pay 16k almost 17k said and done for a 11 year old car.

Like mikefoxx said you can find better ones in you be patient and look around brother!
