Unhappy Intro and problem

Greetings and I'm glad to be here. I drive back and forth from Florida and Tennessee. I live in Florida and own a 2002 GS 300. About a year ago, my "check engine" light came on. We took it to Auto Zone and they said something about some oxygen sensor, but we didnt have the money for it at that time. (still don't). I have my oil changed regularly with synthetic oil and it seems to be running great. I use premium gas always and give it the 3 clicks when finished. I tried unhooking the battery and the first time, it stayed off, but about 6 mos. later, it came on again. The battery trick wouldn't work the second time. There is no smell, I get fabulous gas mileage. I heard it could be an Ect fuse thing (just remove it and put it back in) but I have like 3 of them and none of them deal with the engine or cat converter. Any thoughts?

Start with the cheap stuff - check for exhaust leaks.

There is no way of knowing if the CEL (check engine light) is on for the same issue or not. Get the codes read and then search the 2GS forum for solutions or report back here with it and we will advise as best we can.

Default Codes

Im taking it over on the third for an oil change and oxy sensor check. Not to a dealership but a local, more reasonable car repair place I trust. Can they fine me codes? (I'm already getting flagged for messaging too much in these couple of posts.......jeeez!).

Any decent mechanic will have a scan tool capable of checking the vehicles system to see what codes have set. There is no need for them to check the sensors unless the vehicle sets a code related to them.
