Hey Guys,
I started doing little fixes' to my GS300 today and wanted to de-badge, i have bought something called "goopoff" or something and it has melted away the silicon glue from underneath where the badge sat, but i have a hard outline of where the badge sat, i think it is a hard layer of glue that just wont budge. any ideas / suggestions how i can get rid of this? Thankyou.

 

Hey go buy clay bar and quick detail or you can use clay bar and just water. Make sure its wet all times while using the clay bar. You just have to keep rubbing until it looks like an even color.

If it's hard glue that goopoff won't get off do you think a claybar will really work? I thought claybar was just for refinishing touches and just to pick up small sediments left behind from just normal washing. Basically to restore the paint to it's original or near original state. If it's a hard glue I would just try to saturate it with some liquid that won't harm the paint and try to carefully peel it off. Of course I may be wrong. Just a suggestion gl

 

I had the same problem as you. I tried everything. At the end I just put the emblems back on.

 

If its hard glue, I would use a heat gun . I didnt read your first post correctly. Usually I use a hair dryer over the emblems before taking them off.

 

u could try hair dryer and goo gone and claybar

a combination of 2 of the 3 would work haha

 

i will try heating it up tomorrow and peel it off, if not i will try leaving it as ugly as it is in the sun for a few days and trying again so it may wear off.. Do you think letting it soak in saltwater would help?

If you are positive it is left over glue, then heating it up will work. In my experience, it is usually paint fade. In either case, I always use Plastic-X or any mild Scratch Remover around the area. Even Orange Hand Cleaner works, but just don't over do it.

 

if its glue or even if someone is trying to debadge use a steamer instead of a heat gun

 

chances are it's the fresh paint under the badge and glue that hasn't been faded by the sun yet. You can try anything you like, only time will get rid of the outline. Or, you could try polishing the area to even off the clear, but I think you'll still have a shadow.

 

just be patient and vigorous daniel son. watch out for them blisters tho lol.
