Good stuff! I read your thread. Now since you made the drive larger, did you try to copy a a nav update from a DVD to a flash drive then try to plug it in?? Did you ever get that far?
I could just copy the entire dvd files tot he compact flash card but it probably will not work because the difference in generation of gps. It may probably nuke my gen 1 gps. Repugnante: Possible to find out how the dealer able to compress the files? Infiltrate the information. I dont think any other dealer has done this. |

I think you're right. I don't recall any other dealer doing this as well. Just Lexus of North Miami. I researched this dealer and they are very large. I could only assume that it's legit right? I will try to contact them again to get a better understanding on how they did this exactly. It's a costly part so my other guess is that they are using expensive equipment to accomplish such a feat

I have a 2003 GS... How exactly do I upgrade the Navi??? Do I have to purchase a disc?

personally I think they made the mistake of thinking the gen2 will work with gen1. Its a totally different filing structure and only denso would be able to do this type of compression. Kiwi (ALLDATA.KWI) files needs a special app to view.

Also I just checked the ebay ad and the item is no longer available. Maybe someone purchased it? CL member maybe??? :D

Also I just checked the ebay ad and the item is no longer available. Maybe someone purchased it? CL member maybe??? LEXUS GS400 1998-2000 HARD DRIVE NAVIGATION UPDATE 2012/2013 12.1 http://www.ebay.com/itm/230861113855...84.m1423.l2649 The desciption is rather legit. Anyone have additional info? It would be very exciting if I could update 1999 maps to 2012 maps...I'll give up all the POIs in the world for the map data. |
I am pretty certain that the Lexus of North Miami ebay ad is simply an error, based on correspondence I have. Even though they are advertising a 12.1 Map update for a Generation 1 Navigation, I do not think they have such a thing.
They feel they are simply selling a product provided for and advertised by Lexus. I think they are failing to read the small print (update for Generation 1 through CY2004 map data only). Reference http://www.lexusnavigation.com. I'll update more if something changes......but I doubt it. |
The newest Lexus GPS version is updated via USB but requires connection at Dealer to Techstream to update it (as indicated in the ad).
This is likely for the newest GPS version and just mislabeled as being for 2GS. |
DaveGS4,
I speculated as you have, but after corresponding with them, I realize they legitimately think they have a hard drive (generation 1) Map 12.1 update for the 1998-2000 Lexus models. Also, as we corresponded, they changed the description to indicate hard drive update; oh, and the price jumped up 368% during my discussion with them. I mentioned to them that I agree they have an update for the Generation1 Navigations, but that it is probably only to 2004 Map Data (v. 4.1?). They insisted that it is to Map Data 12.1 (2012/2013). Their assertion, and their price, is contrary to what is currently on http://www.lexusnavigation.com What else can I say? The person responsible for this ebay ad is just not knowledgeable about this particular product. The ad is not mislabeled -- it is misguided. |

Not much hope for us gen1 owners. |
sputniknyc,
Funny. I ended my correspondence with the same observation: "If you can call me or direct me to something that explains how you assert that 12.1 data is available for a 1999 Lexus GS400 Generation 1 Navigation, then please do so. You seem to be the only Lexus Dealership on the planet that has this....which is reason for suspicion." |
Part Number Question
Can anyone explain the differences in these two part numbers?
PT219-F5NCR PT219-F5CPX These are apparently Gen1 NAV HDD updates (2004 data), but of significant price difference. I am guessing "NCR" is "no core required" and "CPX" is "core provided exchange"... .....but, really, dunno. Help? |
