probably a stupid question, but i'll ask....
 

do all toyota/lexus vehicles having timing belts that have to be replaced every 90k. I'm looking for a VAN/SUV and looking at the Lexus RX's and the Toyota Sienna's and was wondering if I need to worry about that

Ya if you're at 90k I would definitely change it out if it hasnt been done yet. Not to mention change water pump, and tensioners and pulleys all at the same time. I just did mine on my RX couple months ago.

up to 2006 all lexus cars had timing belts, from 2006 most have timing chains

I need to get my 90k service done as well. I sent this email to my dad listing the parts I needed from the manual. Is it enough?

"The last time the car had a tune up was at 54,000 miles in 2008. New spark plugs, pcv valve, air filter, fuel injectors cleaned/labor, belt/labor (does not say what belt was changed).

The manual says to replace timing belt and brake fluid. Inspect the following:

Drive belts.
Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank vapor vent system hoses, fuel tank band.
Fuel cap gasket.
Exhaust.
Brakes.
Steering linkages.
Rack and pinion assembly for leaks.
Drive shaft boots.
Trans and diff oil."

Which car or GS model are you talking about?
 

For the GS inline 6, if you on a budget? You can postpone the waterpump. Only if you on a budget.
Cause the water Pump is driven by a separate belt.

They charged you for a belt, and labor... But it doesnt specify what belt they changed? If there is a price on there (assuming a dealeship did it), I would assume a serpentine belt is on the $20-30 range, and higher for a timing belt respectively.

It's safe to bet they changed your accessory drive belt.

Also, looks like a pretty good list for a 90k inspection.

change it bro. that stuff is vita for your cars performance and optimal condition. go on eBay, find your cars timing belt kit which should include everything (timing belt, all serpentines, all tensioners, pullies, etc.). i found mine fr my '01 GS430 for $475. but all original OEM parts. nothing other then toyota. and my dealer is. quoting me $420 for the whole job. you should do that. its very important. good luck my friend!

what other brands do you guys recommend beside toyota? i bought my car with 124k miles and i'm not sure if the previous owner has changed the timing belt.

I would recommend changing out the timing belt at 90k.

Ok so the pump is on a serpentine belt? Not sure what that has to do with not changing it? The impeller is nylon and the fins get worn affecting the flow. As well as you have to take the front of the motor apart to get the pump off, so you will be taking the timing belt off again if you need to change the pump. The pump is not just bolted to the side of the engine it is bolted to the front behind the covers and timing belt.
