Default Wheel Well Liner Removal?

Do I need the wheel well liners on both the driver/passenger side wheels? The plastic has started to losen up and is rubbing the passenger's side wheel. I was told by a fellow CL member that I can just remove the wheel well liners, causing no problems.

What are your thoughts? Can I just remove the liners rather than replacing them?

I wouldn't remove them completely. Just take them out, cut/sand out the top that's rubbing against the tire & reinstall. Double sided tape or some good ol
