Default playing around with Insurance LED tails

just thought id share my discovery with you all.. i was looking at them while having a friend hold the brakes and i noticed that the outter most part of the tail lights doesnt get brighter with the two inner parts.. so i took the tails out and was pondering how i can make all the LEDs get brighter with the brakes so i took the sockets out of the tail and clipped the outter one and wired it up to the inner one, so now they all light up when i hit the brakes.. it looks more full and its brighter for people following behind...

Also just for fun, if anyone was interested in this... but before i clipped off the one plug from the outter most plug.. i plugged it into the blinker socket and turned on the hazzards... and it blinked nicely and was very noticable just would require a resistor to stop the rapid blinking.. but i left the blinking to the stock bulb because i like the yellow blinkers.

just thought id share.. heres a pic of what im talking about. before is on the left and after is right.

my original plan was to clip one of the wires to the trunk lid ones so that they only come to full brighness when you hit the brakes.. and then they would stay off otherwise.. so they wouldnt ruin the look of the outter ones at night. but then i went this way instead and much happier.

nice job on fixing the tail lights, it really looks much better with the whole tail lamp lit up but just so i get a better understanding, the tail lamp originally functions by staying completely lit while driving then cutting out the outter end and brightening the inner?? if so, that design seems a little odd.

I had this problem. The tail lights were bright as if it someone was pressing on the brakes and if I was to step on the brakes nothing really happened.

Turns out I reverse the wires by accident, swapped em and light up correctly.

the brake lights are on in the picture because i had someone holding the brakes for me so i could snap the pic... the fender mounted tails are dim when NOT pressing the brakes, then when you press the brakes they all get brighter instead of just the inner two strips on the fender mounted tail light... but the third brake light mounted on the spoiler is always off until you hit the brakes...basically just disregard the trunk mounted lights all together.. they had nothing to do with this mod, i just dont have those two hooked up because i dont like them,

what you do is take just the fender mounted tail lights out... when your looking at the back of the tail light take the three wires from the outter most socket from the center of the car, cut them and tap them into the inner socket wires.. and then youll have three empty wires that just wont be hooked up but thats ok.. just tape them up and tuck them away. ill try to get pics tomorrow, of the back of the tail light.\

If you look at this pic of a members car, he has the brake lights on, look at the left tail light "because its easier to see it" youll notice only the inner two sections light up and the outter part is not...

I just installed these same tails on mine, and noticed the same thing when you hit the brakes. May have to try this, looks much better! Curious to see pics of how exactly you wired them up though...

That person has the Ebay "Insurance" style tail lights, not the real Insurance tail lights like yours.
