So call me ghetto or not. I just couldn't justify spending 200+ for a silent intake or a piece of pipe since I am already running the TRD OEM air filter. I also don't like intakes for the noise that they give out. So I decided to try something and buy one of those cheap intakes off of Ebay.

I cut the pipe just above where you put the MAS on and then went to home depot to buy another rubber coupler. This I am going to change out with a matching blue one.

Results:

I definately felt better throttle response in all ranges (low/mid/high)...definate increase in performance. I don't get the throaty sound from your normal Conical air filters. And I only spent roughly under 50 dollars for the entire project.

Thanks everyone. I got the idea from the PLP page. Just didn't want to spend that much. I have been running the TRD OEM air filter for over a year now and wanted to kick it up another knotch.

I just went to ebay and typed in GS300 Intake and ordered an intake kit from one of the selers. The kit goes for like 8 dollars or something like that, but they get you on the shipping. I actually ordered another blue coupler but it didn't fit well, so I need to order one with a bigger diameter. A reducer that is 2.50 to 3.00 in diameter.

I was thinking about running some AC airducts into my GS4 airbox. Anyone tried this?
I know I wont see much difference unless I alter my fuel mixture & "rich" it out.

Your right i went on ebay last night and saw a short ram aristo intake for the 400 for like 8.95. I didn't know what the shipping was but it had the pipe,filter, fittings, and the space for the MAF sensor... So it seemed like a direct swap... Looked great except it didn't have the heat shield Still for 8.95 it has to work like the k&N which cost over 240.00. Maybe i'll order it...

Where would you put a heat shield with the stock air box?

the response is better because for one, the tubing doesn't have the ripples in it like the stock piece. It is smooth al the way through. Also on the stock piping, there is a chamber on the bottom...I don't know what it is for, but I think that might also cause some restriction.

For the heat shield, I think they were referring to the one that goes over the exhaust manifold.

Solid idea. I have read about SRT and K&N intakes. Some say, it makes a difference, some say it doesn’t (at least not for the $). I also read a post about the stock resonator box being critical and in essence, queue up air for the throttle body without drag (at least, that is what I think I read).

With this bigger/ smoother pipe, did it take the computer any time to adjust?

That chamber is referred to as a Hemholtz resonator, and it improves airflow. That's why Lexus incorporated it in the intake system. It also dampens sound of course.

I know this is an old thread but just wondering where did you put the two little hose that go to the engine (see pics below) ? or we just dont need it?
