Post GREASE ON ABS SENSOR? 98 gs400

So just replaced my lower joint ***** and the abs/vsc light are on. i pulled the abs sensor out and it stuffed with grease. so my question is does the grease causes the malfonction or its probably a broken sensor.

grease should be around the opening so it doesn't seize in there but it's not a good idea to put grease on the tip of the sensor as it will collect dust and other crap and can cause the sensor to malfunction.
