I want to paint my calipers but PROFESSIONALLY if possible.. please need suggestions.
Hey CL. I'm making this thread in hope of suggestions, links, phone numbers to shops, etc. Something to set me in the right direction. I want to paint my calipers soon as I'm installing my new OEM rotors and brake pads. Does anyone know where I should go or any places that's well known to do this type of stuff. I can easily go buy paint for calipers at my local AAP store but I want a clean professional long lasting job. Maybe powder coat? Can someone please point me out in the right direction as to where I can get this done and actually get what I want. A clean candy Apple red set of calipers that the outside world can see from a mile away ;-)..... Please any suggestions, opinions, references, etc will be DEEPLY appreciated. If possible please leave a pic of your calipers so I can check out what's it suppose to look like when its all done.

I personaly would not spend a Dime on having a shop Paint my Calipers, its a easy enough DIY that your entry level guy can do it. Prep of Surface is key.
Spend $$ on a Powder coat/ceramic coat YES, on Paint, NO. On another note, are these stock Calipers? Why Spend money on Coating stock calipers, at least do a Minimum caliper upgrade to a TT or LS4 and then Powder coat... |
If you want to paint your stock calipers, its a easy DIY. I do advise you paint it black and not a red, blue, green, or yellow color. Just my 2cents.

I had the rim shop change my pads and at the same time had them spray my calipers black. It looked simple enough that anyone could do it... I was just being lazy but for 30 bucks figured why get my hands dirty... I asked about powder coat but they said after baking the powder that most of the time you need a brake rebuild becasue the seals inside the caliper ussually get messed up...

All you need is epoxy g2 paint from ebay its a simple DIY and doesn't cost much. I did this years ago when i barely knew anything about cars....came out fine to me ...

paint it black with white lexus stickers...simple enough.

I would not recommend powder coating calipers - it can't handle the heat cycles (expansion and contraction) and eventually pops off in chunks. Companies like StopTech and Brembo actually use a two-part epoxy paint - the correct way to do it is to prep, paint, apply graphics, and then clear coat the entire affair. There's a shop out here in So Cal that does a lot of it - you're looking at $600+ to do a set of calipers, including graphics and clear.
If you're painitng the stock calipers, I don't see the point in going this route - a spray an works pretty well, and stock calipers should only be black or grey anyway (who would want to call attention to their puny stock brakes?). i did the calipers on my Odyssey work van in "Engine builders Cast Iron Grey" which looks pretty good. I also don't understand the "Lexus" caliper logo thing; is this in case you forget what kind of car you have? Here I am removing emblems and you guys are adding them.... just seems so Pep Boys to me. Would look nice with a "Special Edition" badge on your trunk, I suppose. We call this the MLC package (Mid-Life Crisis). Also, please, please, please paint those rusty brake rotor hats black! |

I agree with the method of painting them, but your statement is just silly all together, some can argue why debage a "luxury" car this isn't a Honda. That being said my car is debaged. ;) I can't speak for everyone else, to ME its an upgrade as well as keeping it factory/clean... Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion an this is mine. I have the logo's on mine -- you might say it's a cheap man brembo type looking deal but brembo wasn't the first caliper manufacturer to place logo's on their calipers. Older AMG vehicles had them, porsche, etc. I personally painted my calipers black. Painting them red, blue, pink, yellow, etc imo is weird. But everyone has their own taste. I don't feel it's Pep boys-ish either. If I were to wrap my calipers in carbon fiber vinyl, then yea -- pep boys. |
