65mph+ shake fix

65mph+ shake fix
I've been getting that 65+ vibration that I've been dealing with for awhile now and over the past couple of weeks its gotten worse. Well I ended up ordering OEM motor mounts, OEM transmission mount, OEM upper control arms, Moog inner and outer tie rods, moog ball joints, and new hub centric rings. I'll replace the parts individually and report back on what makes a difference.
When I initially bought the car I had changed the ball joints and the outer tie rods and had the whole Daizen bushings done including the steering rack bushings.
Got the motor mounts replaced yesterday. The motor mount on my passenger side was split in two so I definitely needed to get that changed. When my car was on the lift I noticed my front tires were worn out down to metal. About an inch right at the edge, I have about -3.2 degrees in camber on the front but this was not camber wear.
After the motor mounts were replaced, the vibration on the floor board I feel has reduced. I'm still getting steering wheel shake. Getting the tires replaced before the tie rods and will report back.
UPDATE: 03/15/2012
Changed out the front tires, got it road force balanced and did an alignment. Made a big improvement. I would say almost 50% of the vibration is gone. Put it back in the shop and changed out the inner and outer tie rods along with the ball joints. I think the culprit in my case was the combination of the tires and the inner tie rods. The inner tie rods could be flung around which definitely needed changing.
My car is completely shake free now. So to date these are the suspension components that have been changed:
- Wheels
- Suspension
- Tires
- Daizen bushings
- Figs Rear LCA
- Figs rear toe links and sway links
- Motor Mounts
- Transmission mount
- Tires
- Upper control Arm
- Ball joints
- Inner and Outer Tie Rods
Hope this helps.

I did everything suspension wise just as you did. But now I'm about to redo it again with all oem parts. I'll be doing a few other things that most people wouldn't do (steering rack) but its just me being precautious this time around.
I read up the other day that sometimes the floor shake can be caused by the driveshaft center bearing, so that may be something to look into.

I did exactly what you did, except for upper control arms. All daizen bushings, motor and tranny mounts, ball mjoints, allignments and then just recenty inner and outer tie rods and that made a huge improvement! I've been shake free since then!

I've already got the poly steering rack bushings, would like to do the sway bar bushings as well. I'll check ebay and google, I think I looked around a little bit last summer and didn't find the sways easily, maybe I didn't look that hard.
Edit: Just ordered front and rear prothane poly sway bushings from eBay, a little under $30. Can't hurt given the age and mileage on the car!
