i got 225/35/20 achillies on a 9.5 for about 10k miles. no problems...

50psi is way too much. The tire says on the sidewall don't inflate past 50psi. When you drive and the tires warm up the pressure increases so what you think will happen to cold tire at 50psi once it warms up? 35 psi is the ideal pressure that most tires should be inflated to.
