Ok, just curious how many people have actual miles on their GS3/GS4. Some say that they can go 300k miles easily. But if that is the case, how many have made it there?
Mine 98 GS4 is only at 140,500 miles. I bought mine at 138800 miles or so.
My 94 Cadillac Fleetwood made it to 250k EASILY. My 90 Aerostar Van made it to 275k (given to us, already on 3rd trans.... but engine was solid and strong, body was GONE), my 91 Pontiac Bonneville went 270k before we gave it away, again, easily, not a single major problem, original trans and engine and drive axles. Never even popped a valve cover.
Your Aerostar is an old story... the last one we had lasted forever, solid engine, worthless trans... yet the body was so bad and rusted, we put a foot through the driver's door's lower jamb.
GS400, bought with 198k miles, sitting at 212k, with a few months that the ABS took out the speedo. This summer should be front-end suspension and timing belt.
I did the timing belt and coming on the next belt. It isn't bad at all. I did get one cam off one tooth, but fixed the next day. I learned my lesson to turn the engine over to make sure it is tight both ways.
The Aerostar didn't even burn oil in its advanced age! Ran darn good. That E4WD was the best Ford awd/4wd system, 33% front/ 66% rear split, and it drifted in the snow AWESOME. I even took it off roading with the kids, they still talk about that today.
My GS has one issue now I haven't figured out how to solve. At slow speeds, worse in turns the ABS kicks in, but if you are hard on the brakes fine, no issues, but easy like in a parking lot parking, darn ABS kicks in. Gradually getting worse, but don't know where to look. Swapped ABS sensors (entire spindles), no change. All wiring looked great. Its strange. Swapped from summer to winter rims, (different wear and tire size), no change. Its a head scratcher. No codes naturally.

I'm having the same issue... ready to pull the ABS fuse. It's to the point the ABS will kick in, and stay clicking, even with no pressure on the brake pedal. Head scratcher, and very irritating...

subn.....I have the same issue bud and it's very intermittent and I only have 54k on my 99gs400...
2001 GS430, 167,000 miles. valve covers gaskets finally needed replacing. cars still going strong, a few more creaks and rattles but ain't complaining.
I saw a '00 GS400 with 368,003 miles on Craigslist the other day. I decided to contact the owner and he said it was all original (engine and transmission).
