I used some trans red spray paint and the paint came out perfectly and looks factory when the lights are off. When I hit the brakes, the centers clearly let more light through and look like a light red compared to the outers. I put about 6-7 coats on too

I used this paint just because my buddy had a can http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/tam/tam86037.htm

Default I know it’s late

Glossy
But I tested out the transparent red paint from Tamiya and it worked out great.
