Post 02 GS430 All locks not locking/unlocking

Hello,

My 2002 lexus gs 430 will not lock/unlock. The remote key when you press lock it does absolutely nothing. When you press unlock the only thing it does is make the car beep and orange lights come on and turn off like normal but does not unlock the car. All the lock does is make like a click sound twice when the unlock/lock button on remote and door controls are pressed but does not lock nor unlock. But the trunk button on remote works but not on from the inside of the car. I'm lost and this is my last attempt to find a solution.

Thanks in advance.

The door lock actuators probably need to be replaced.

You can try to reprogram your key. I used this procedure last week from CaptainVa and it restored my keys ability to unlock my doors. Realize that the procedure is basically two parts.

Part one is to get the car into programming mode.

The second part is the pushing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously that the car accepts to recognize the signal from the key. Try it out. It seems strange that all four locks are failing at the same time. Let us know how it worked out. Thanks.

Hey Paul,
i just did the reprograming, after doing all these steps I held the lock and unlock button and the car tried cycling and none of the locks moved. All four locks just clicked as well as activate panic mode from the remote. It seems the remote is programed but the locks just don't want to lock/unlock via remote or door controls. Did I do something wrong? I did it at the pace it said to do it on the forum you sent. i also recently replaced passenger side door actuator and latch. (The whole mechanism) Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Juan

So, the locks cycled during the programming procedure? Sorry to be so brief. Lunch time at work and I am swamped.

You might just have one lock that is causing you the headache. I do not know right now without some thought how you would determine which one it is. Did the one you replace ever work? Did the rest of them work after you replaced it? Did you use OEM parts or did you go with aftermarket? Find a salvage yard. Strip the doors for the locks and replace them one at a time would be my recommendation to you. Good luck.

Your issue was answered in the second post. This is a common issue for our cars. Just replace the each actuators, end of story. Click on the sticky above for tutorial.

I looked at the stickies for actuator replacement but still don't understand what exactly points to the need to replace all four. He doesn't state that any of the locks were not working previous. Trying to understand how four actuators could fail at once. Respect.

just skimmed over this really quick and I didn’t see anything about them failing all at once. I think the issue most of us had was they went out one by one, but the good actuators would still cycle. If he’s hearing a clicking noise but the actuators aren’t strong enough to cycle the locks, either something needs to be lubed or the actuators are bad. I would start with one of the rears since those are easiest to replace.

Thank you. I reread earlier his symptoms because I thought he said that one had been replaced. And I didn't see that info after review.
There was a lack of details on the health of all locks up to the point that his drivers door finally failed and he could easily have had others failed that he may not have been aware of. But seemed a bit of a leap to leave out a detail like that. 🤔
My 03 had a bad front passenger when I got her which created some lock/unlock issues using the key. (No remote key when I bought her) But "my" biggest issue is the indicator cable on the front doors. The one with the black plastic end cap. It snaps if you pull the door panel away too far without disconnecting it and then your in for it. Had to pay $40 to get a new one on ebay because I couldn't find one at the salvage yard that wasn't already broken.
I appreciate the explanation and experience. I just very rarely see four of anything fail at once unless it is something electrical. Thanks again.

There is another thread on here that shows how to repair the cable with a paper clip. I’ve replaced maybe 20 or so actuator motors and i think only a few of them had that plastic on the cable break but I remember it happening to alot of people.

Found it. I'm usually very good at thinking outside the box but this one escaped me. Thanks for the lesson. 😁
