I don't know about ML since i haven't taken my GS430 apart but when I replaced my GS400's speakers, the car had a 4" enclosure thing on every door. I had to do a custom MDF plate to use the 6.5 Boston's I have so 6.5 will work..

 

don, i know the ML had different size speakers but i thought they used a 6" up front and a 4" out back


here dug these up from BEFORE i finished my audio build (i hadnt even replaced the speakers yet lol)....although it doesnt say the sizes visually you can see the front/rear is different

you're welcome. don't rely on diameter only. Remember the speaker depth. As much as i loved the way my focals k2p sounded - i hated the fact they were so friggin deep i had to demolish some of the fronts door panel and they'd still hit, kappa 6.1 had no problems in rear. 5" is a good idea, just make sure they're under 2.7" in depth(iirc).

 

I know I'm bumping this, but was curious if the Dynamat made any difference in sound with the stock speakers? I have some left over material I was debating putting on the doors now or wait until I do my stereo.

 

I just ordered some 6.5 adapters from this shop ill let u know how it goes
