OEM

Aftermarket have been known to not always fit 100%. Do a search. there was a recent post of Aftermarket Lower Ball joints and how washers were needed

Just to be honest, I don't even trust the OEM after doing all of the reading, viewing pictures, and reading recall notices. Remember it IS the OEM that are breaking very fast. I'm actually going to go with Moog when I change mine out because it's cheaper. I refuse to buy OEM and it's known that OEM GS balljoints are not made efficiently. My OEM infiniti balljoint was replaced at 200k...it still wasn't broken. The nut did have "joystick" play in it, but I highly doubt the OEM lexus gs balljoint will last that long.

Stop spreading Rumors..What readings? What recall notices? Ball joints ON ANY car should be replaced at certain mileage..The GS ones wear out quicker, which the more reason for proper maintenance and inspection when time is do. Go with Your Moog if it makes you fell better and sleep at night.

Rumors!? The first Gen had recalls on their OEM ball joints, and the build quality didn't get any better with the 2nd Gen. Multiple members on CL even stated that they should've extended the recall on the 2nd Gen because of the problems. These are facts buddy. What readings...ummm on this site. How can you be a member longer than I and not have read multiple ball joints threads on here?? I mean, there is a STICKY about the bad ball joints with the 2nd Gen on this site, advising members to change ASAP....including multiple pictures showing the ball joints breaking on member cars. I NEVER SAID that ball joints DON'T WEAR OUT and shouldn't be replaced, but I DO KNOW that our ball joints shouldn't be breaking at the dangerous rate they have. Accepting that Lexus ball joints wear out faster is unacceptable for me. Please educate me on why the GS ball joints wear out quicker? What about the suspension on the 1st and 2nd Gen are causing the OEM ball joints to break/wear out quicker than normal. They have been "wearing out quick" since 93...I'll look forward to your answer. Like I told someone earlier, I'm a noob on this site but not a noob when it comes to cars. I have 78k on my 02 so I plan on replacing them shortly due to them "wearing out quickly" and seeing the scary damage pictures on this site.

We do agree that proper maintenance is key. I'm looking forward to going to my friend shop this weekend to put it on a lift so I can examine the bottom of the car.

To the OP, you can go with OEM or an aftermarket ball joint. Just use a trusted brand. I've used OEM and aftermarket ball joints in the past with no problems.

so now we are talking about first gen? Mmmm..I read the sticky back in 09. stay on topic..
I have many miles on my OEM replacements, without a problem.
Besides the fact, that we all know that the 2nd gen GS ball joints should be inspected/replaced why do you say your Moog is better than OEM as a replacement? Can you Prove the OEM replacement is the same quality as the Production unit that came with your car 6-13 years ago?

Beck and Arnley is a distributor. They don't really manufacture anything on their own so what you buy from B&A could end up being OEM parts or aftermarket. I know for a fact that their coolant temperature sensor is identical to the OEM part, but when it comes to ball joints, they may be from a different supplier. I don't know anyone who uses B&A balljoints, but in any case, you should keep an eye on them. I have OEM balljoints, but even then I inspect them periodically.

As you should all parts of your vehicle, and highly recommended if your modified.

in addition it might be a good idea to inspect your steering ends too, that way you do it all in one shot, and DON'T forget the alignment once your done.

to the OP, if you are going to replace your ball joints, you might as well replace your outer tie rods too. Just FYI...

I thought the lower ball joint design was changed from S16 made after February 2003?

Sorry stupid question and I'm not thread hijacking. I need to change my ball joints asap. Can someone recommend a site where they sell Moog ball joints?
