I use whatever dino is on sale and change. I typically just use Mobil Super 5k and change every 5k miles. Changing syn oil every 5k is a waste. Can do atleast 8k with syn with our motors. Plenty of UOA's to support my stance with our cars.

When my car hits 85k in a few weeks I am going to try M1 5w30 with a Bosch Distance Plus filter. There have been reports on Bob's this combo should allow a 10k-15k mile interval depending on how the car is driven.

I'm using mobile 1 fully synthetic 5w-30 extended. thinking about changing it to 10w-30 because my engine has 200k miles and my engine is ticking/knocking. anybody know if this is a good idea? or should i stick with the 5w-30.

There is no difference at operating temp between 5w-30 and 10w-30. They are only different when it's very old outside. It will make no difference.

Look at the question. He isn't asking about the difference in the motor oil, he's asking if changing from 5w-30 to 10w-30 will solve a ticking noise. No, it will make no difference. The owners manual isn't going to answer this question.

I was looking at your statement saying there is no temperature difference in 10w-30 and 5w-30. Misunderstanding.

If you are having a noise, I would suggest maybe switching brands of oil.
Changing 5w-30/10w-30 may have an effect, but if I were in your shoes, I'd explore switching brands first. I personally have not been too impressed with Mobil1 in my gs300 (some consumption).

Give it a try, I am not recommending any boutique expensive exotic oil, just whatever you see on sale pennzoil/shell/whatever.

I notice mobil 1 does have oil consumption on my previous cars. I switched to Castrol Full Syn and it solved the problem, for me at least. Switching brand is not gonna solve the noise. Assuming his oil level and oil quality is still good. Valves make noise when they start to have valve lash. He's gonna need to get his valves adjusted. I vacuum gauge can detect if the car needs valve adjustments or not.

^^^Currently in my gs I dont use synthetic oil simply because ever since new it has had castrol gtx put in every 2.5-3k miles. However in one of my other cars (cadillac ) i use mobil 1 5w-30 and at 5k miles im missing about 1 quart of oil, is this because of the brand I hope that this issue can be solved with switching to castrol syntec.
