what's this noise?
I have a 99 GS3 and I noticed this weird sound. Whenever I come to a complete stop and then take off I hear a clicking sound that kind of sounds like a cricket. Its the weirdest sound ever. And it only happens when I'm coming from a complete stop or turning from a complete stop. It sounds like it comes from the suspension/wheel area but its hard to tell. Anyone have any idea what this please let me know. Thanks
Lets narrow it down . . . it makes the sound when you come to a complete stop and let off the brake pedal? Or when you step on the gas?
You might want to check out the brake pads are seated properly or check the lower ball joints.

So I had a mechanic look at it and all you had to do is kick the wheel and you can hear the rattle. we narrowed it down to the brake caliper/pad. The pads in the front were replaced about 2k miles ago and never made that noise until after the balancing. Does anyone know what this could be?

5 options:
1. One of the brake caliper slide pins are seized.
2. You didn't use oem pads, so there was no way to install the spring clips.
3. Your brake pad fit kit (clips and retainers) are bad and need to be replaced.
4. If you used oem pads, your installer didnt install the shims.
5. Caliper is sticking to the back of the pad.

I'm pretty sure its the brake pad/caliper. When I'm driving, it makes that clicking noise. But when I press the brake, it stops making that noise. I guess it just clamps together so its not loose. I still need to fix this
Yea so after putting in new struts and getting an alignment the noise is still there, and I realized it DOES happen when I shift to reverse as well as coming from a complete stop. My mechanic said its something to do with a brake clip or pin. Is he right? I bought rear centric rotors and pads, maybe thats whats causing this?

You don't have to buy a brake/shim kit. It is recommended. Especially if you are using OEM pads. The spring clips for the front pads should be there.
For instance. I've done OEM, pep boys, advance, and then settled with Axxis prem organic/ceramic. These axxis have their own built in shim kits and no where for the spring clips to fit because this is how they're made. I tried to fit the shim/brake kit in there and no dice.
Use high quality ceramic pads.
If I were you I'd spend the extra money - get a new clip/shim kit (shims are sperate from the brake clip kit) and OEM pads both front and rear.
Resurface your rotors and then report back. If the clunk still exists then I am betting its your sway bar end links.
