Default SRT Check Engine Light

Ever since I installed my SRT ECU the car has been throwing a cel about an evap leak and an open circuit. I believe I have found the source.

Step 6 from the SRT install manual

6. Remove the vacuum #3 hose completely from the air box and the line in the
vehicle. (This gets replaced with the 5/16” hose supplied). Also remove the
sensor that the vacuum line is attached to from the air box.

and here is step 14, the last step involving the intake, not the chip

14. Install the supplied 24” long 5/16” vacuum hose to the where vacuum hose #3
was connected (it will be a very tight connection, you can use a bit of windex to
make the installation easier), route the other end of the hose through the ¾” hole
in the heat shield and connect it to the elbow in front of the air filter (if necessary
you can cut to fit if the hose is too long for a proper fit)...

If you noticed it never mentions replacing the sensor (which currently resides on my stock intake up in the attic) because of this there is a plug in my engine bay that normally connects to that sensor, but currently isn't attached to anything, thus causing the CEL

It is possible to route a vacuum hose from the srt intake to the sensor and then another hose from the other end of the sensor and plug the sensor back in. SRT OWNERS Should I do this? How did you deal with this issue?

Are you talking about the MAF?

If you don't have that installed your car will run like garbage/if at all.

haha no not the MAF, and the engine will stall because it thinks there is no air flowing to it if the MAF isn't in the intake. On the stock setup there is a vac line that connects the air box to a sensor, the SRT intake doesnt have a place for this sensor, unless i sorta jury rig it...

What the instructions mean is remove the sensor from the airbox (held on with a plastic clip -- just remove the sensor). Leave the sensor plugged in (electrically). The vacuum line runs from the elbow on top of the filter (front of the car) to the sensor. I just used a self tapping screw to mount the evap sensor (it is actually a solenoid, not a sensor) to the SRT heatshield. Haven't had a CEL.

Do you have pictures of the sensor you mounted, I have a feeling the previous owner removed it and never put it back, hence my eval code.

Not my car (grabed it off the web) but the red circle shows the purge solenoid.

I think its only on the 01+ gs and IS3, I remember my 03 sport design having that but my 00 GS3 does not, no plugs anywhere for that.

Thanks anyways. this car is driving me nuts with its stupid check engine lights! Grrr.

Yes I did, my fix isn't the prettiest thing but it works. I ran a vac hose from the top of the filter (via the little clear vac hose thing) to the sensor and then from the sensor to the metal vac hose below the intake. This however left me with no place to bolt the sensor so I secured the sensor to the intake pipe via zip ties. It isn't beautiful, but it functions.
