Default Worth getting a GS or look for something else?

Sup GS people,

I'm considering a 98-00 GS400 with NAV, HID, spoiler, 17's in black or that maroonish color with the intention of owning an allround "sport sedan"

But, most of my friends have told me to look at something else, saying the GS is not a "driver's car" (I'm planning to test one this weekend). I love the styling of the GS, especially with bigger aftermarket rims, but my friends also disagree saying an A6 or E-class, even an 01 & up LS is more attractive, and that the GS looks dated.

Naturally, you all drive GS's and must like them, but I know this is a stupid question, is it worth gettin' a GS ?

Thanks

Only thing I can say is test it for yourself.....you'll see Don't listen to your friends about the styling....it isn't dated by any means....you know that cuz you still like it, and thats all that matters. A redesign is in the works and will be out in a couple of years....but this car is still the king sports/luxo sedan out there, drive it for yourself and see.

After a few mods, the GS can become a drivers car. I love the way my car drives now, but stock, it sucks.

Your friends are right. The GS is not a drivers car. It is meant to be flown in to space.

Worth every penny! I think it is an easy choice if you do not go with a german car for the sake of having a german car! More practical and will more than likely last you much longer! Just my 2 cents.

well, apparently age does play a big role in car purchase...let me ask you(or your friends) few questions:

1. how do you define a "driver's car"?..

2. who is paying for the overall maintenance of the car?

3. we have plenty of younger (relatively speaking ) drivers here who value their GS as the best thing $$$ can buy..nothing is perfect in this world..so does the GS..but, we rather spend our $$ on any mod we like than to visit the tech guys at the dealers on monthly/weekly basis..heck we all want to be friends with our maintenance crews down at the dealers..but you need to draw that line somewhere, right...

4. "look" is very personal taste and matter..BUT, please do not tell me the "current E " is a driver's car...."may be' the next E or the A6....BUT, again..in terms of overalll ownership, GS simply cannot be beat...

Lincoln LS....hmmm you are kidding , right?...well, they do have that 0% financing for 60 months....hmmm i wonder why...????

Talking thanks

I showed some of my friends this forum and they were amazed to see LEXUS cars get sooo much support from their owners!!!

Anyway, I plan to test drive the GS400 this Saturday. Who knows, I may just come home with it! First thing I'd do is get some rims, springs, shocks, n struts.

I pay for 65 % of car's value, gas, insurance, and maintainance on the car and heard GS's have high theft premiums, does that jack up the rates?

As others have said, with a couple of minor suspension mods, the GS quickly becomes a drivers sedan. But, one of the main things I like about the GS, besides the luxury, comfort and power, is the fact that there aren't many around! BMW's are a dime a dozen, but I can usually count the number of GS's I see a week on one hand. That's exclusivity baby!

That may be true on "Third Rock," but where I live, I see a dime a dozen per day! Mainly GS300s, and some 400s. But a lot, and I mean alot, of GSs.

First off, where you live is on third rock! That's too bad you see so many GS's, but I'll bet you still see many more 5 series BMW's...

Yah, everywhere I go I see 528i's. Where I live I BET 5 series outsells Accords and Camry's.

I see a lot of GS300's but they are mostly driven by elderly people. I RARELY see GS400's and when I do they look so PHAT because they are almost always modded. Soooooo in terms of exclusivity.... that's one of the reasons why I want a GS4!!!

I don't think the GS looks dated at all. Even the 1st gen GSs still have something about them that sets them apart (especially if the wheels are "upgraded").

I like the look of the new Lincoln LS, although I don't consider it in the same league as the GS. I'm glad to see some progress from a US automaker. The 60s Lincoln Continental is still my favorite, though.

people who drive GS4's are somewhat extremist. i mean think of it, the only difference btw a 4 and 3 is a snorting V8 under the hood. some people need that, most dont. i see at the most 1 or 2 GS4s a week here in ATL. and we have more luxury cars per capita than anyplace on earth, except LA. its kinda like a red label bentley and a green label bentley. both are great (understatement) cars, but the enthusiasts know whats really going on........

I know, i was merely joking because in his profile, that is where it says he lives. The Third Rock is huge...

BTW- I see plenty of 97 528s and 525 or whatnot every day. About the same as I see GS300s. The amount of 540s I see are pretty rare compared to the amount of GS400s i see.
