LED's underhood
a month or so ago i posted a thread about leds under the hood. got a few responses and i said id do it. after being lazy to do it, i finally did it this past week.
cost me about 30 bucks total and a couple hours of work (not hard work, just too my time). i placed them right under hood behind grill. routed the wire nicely and hidden. and wired it to a toggle switch so that i can shut them on and off from engine bay. materials: 1. one 24 inch vleds 5000k led strip 2. toggle switch to shut leds on/off at will! 3. wire 4. plastic tubbing to protect wires. pics in no particular order. i need a better night pics, but my camera doesnt seem to get it done. =/ either way, night view is pretty good. maybe another strip would add more brightness, but this one strip is concealed soo good you cant notice or see it unless you look for it. only way you know its there is when the light is on and u look underneath the hood for it. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...cer280/led.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...80/ledfuse.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...0/lednight.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...80/ledrout.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../ledroute2.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../ledroute3.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../ledroute4.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...0/ledstrip.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../ledswitch.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...er280/leds.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...er280/leed.jpg |

pretty disco...

cool project. Just make sure those wires don't get pinched near the hinge.
|
thanks guys. up to now, no problems. i thought the heat under the hood would melt the leds or the cover around the led strip, but its been perfectly fine.doesnt feel hot at all either when i open the hood. guess we'll see over time. and no pinching on the wires yet.

Turn on the light and close the hood. Take a picture of that.

if not then the answer is no. cus when you close the hood the light is completely hidden and cant be seen at all what so ever. |
It would have looked better if it was visible from grill.

Or cut a hole in the hood and make it rotate to face out when the hood is closed.
http://jjward.com/images/KnightRider.gif Seriously though I need to do this on my car too. Will probably use two regular lamps though since they put out much more light. Nice work. |
