1.is it ok to get used one? (will i lose any performance)?
2.whats the difference between old and new ecu
3.is it worth to upgrade to new ecu if it comes with old?
4.any ideas how much should it cost? (new/old/used) w/ old/new ecu
I was too scared to modify the ECU on my car, so I bought the Injen for $225. Your questions are covered in several places on the board, but they did have a dyno and the SRT did the worst (without an ECU, however.)
You can get a used SRT Intake with the old type ECU. I would recommend upgrading to the Race ECU v.2 though since it gives a little more power at the lower RPM band. Here is the link to SRT's ECU swap As far as costs, I have no idea. Check out the classified section and see what used intakes are going for. Good luck
paid $380 for a used one myself....then, exchanging the older ecu for the race ecu, which hasn't gotton to me yet. (it's been over 2 weeks). so, that'll cost me an additional $100.
the filter is a lifetime filter. it never needs replacing...just cleaning.

Is the SRT a sealed cold air intake? If it's just a open filter with a heat shield then you will lose power once the engine warms up. As far as power gain on an aftermarket intake, alone, it will do very little if anything at all. This is true of any intake put a half-decent engineered car. I thought the Injen was the best intake on the shootout, if so then why buy SRT?

No. There's aftermarket or DIY cold[er] air boxes.

But the SRT is interesting in that it includes a 'piggyback' ECU (which has to be soldered in) which modifies the fuel flow to match the increased air to supposedly give increased gains all the time.

That test wasn't really fair because the SRT was tested WITHOUT the piggyback ECU and SRT doesn't even sell it or recommend it to be used that way.
Having said all that, I think the SRT intake gains aren't bad at high rpm but it may well lose some power/torque at low rpms.
I think combining the TC and SRT intake makes up for any loss their may be from the SRT intake at low RPMs. From my sig, you can see what I have at the wheels with just the intake and a TC. Enough to beat a GS400 with the same combo, hehe , as evidenced from the dyno graphs when my car was compared to a GS400's with similiar setup @ SRT. I will try and get to the track in the next few weeks to get some #s finally.
