Anyone else have success mounting a 12' sub on the GS rear deck?
I'm going through a stereo system upgrade and am adverse to boxing my sub because of space limitation in my trunk. In doing some research I came across a really innovative build where Debonair built a 12 inch baffle to space his free air sub for use on the rear deck using the 10 inch opening (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/lexu...ucho-pics.html).
My question is: Has anyone had success in mounting a 12' sub on a 2nd Gen rear deck? (this was also posted in the Audio section) |
I doubt that you can fit a 12 foot sub back there. But the thread you referenced we fit a 13" elemental designs sub with no issue.

12" will fit

i have a 12" precision power sub in my deck it sounds good but i just dont like the raddle that comes off the deck when the bass is hitting hard. I have been trying to find the perfect sub box to but in the trunk that wont take up to much space. i am leaning towards putting a dual 10" sub box in the trunk so i could still keep decent space and have really good sound.

You're serious about your noise isolation. Haha.
Looks good. |

I was able to mount a 12in JL Audio Free Air sub. I had the audio shop make a custom bracket that mounted on top of the sub. From their, I used bolts and mounted the sub underneath the rear deck. It was a very simple and easy solution to mounting the sub. I don't recall any rattling from the deck.
I don't have any pictures, but if you have any questions about this, PM me. |
Sakataj- I like your DIY style kid. How does it sound?

I was able to fit a 12" Image Dynamics IDMAX in once, but eventually removed it from my car because the rear deck was seriously flexing. No way it was meant to handle a 45lbs sub, even in a static condition. In order to brace the rear deck, it meant i would have to give up some space which defeats the purpose of an infinite baffle setup in the first place.
Weight is more concerning than the size of the subwoofer. |

There is a way to brace it without losing space by either welding a cross brace to it, or reinforcing it with wood. However a 45lb sub is pretty big, the 13" ed that we fit was only about 25 lbs and there was no evident signs of flexing.
SIGH, vlad still waiting on them to get my RE back to me |
