Default 6 speed GS?

Ok I was wondering, is there any way possible to turn the GS into a 6 speed, preferably automatic.... or is that just impossible, lets and for about how much would it cost if it was possible, because if someone was to do a Twin turbo charge setup for the GS400/430, then having a 6 speed automatic transmission would just make this car sick... lol

Well it would make the top end alot better but thats about it. I think it would be more than what its worth. I would just change it to manual and that would be better!!!...... IMO!!!!

Er, why? What benefit would a 6 speed auto be, except a little smoother? It wouldn't make the car any faster.

or is that just impossible, lets and for about how much would it cost if it was possible
"lets and for" - huh?? You on crack or something?

Well no one's going to do it, but it would be interesting.

sorry show, but there's no way shorting of selling your soul to get a six speed or manual in this car. a very few benzes have been converted, but i don't think any GSes have, but others here may know.

like bit said, only a manual really helps if you increase gears anyway

In some trannys it is possible to 'squeeze in' another gear. I would highly doubt that the Lex 5 speed would be capable of this. You would need to change to any entirely new tranny, and probably driveline and rearend.

Don't forget the electronics... it's not just a mechanical thing.

LoLoL typo, see the thing is though I thought that if u were to have a six speed transmission in a car like our GS's, that it would also have a better pickup throughout the gears, from a roll alot of cars can compete with our GS's if not beat them..... I've seen cars that i can take from a stop, but on a roll we would be d@mn near tied....idunno just food for thought, maybe anyone would know if it could be done or not, if there wasn't a "electronic thing" I know i've heard places that u can drop another gear in those muslce cars so how hard would it be to do it for our GS's even and what would the benefits be..?

Usually when you add another gear in a tranny, it just spreads out the existing ratios and makes the tranny shift quicker. (in a way). It dosen't really just add annother gear on top of your existing gear ratio. So adding a gear to our tranny would not give it more top end unless you changed all of the gears and set up the driveline in such a manner to give more top end. Electronics are a critical part though... without a new Tranny ECU, the computer would be completely confused. Any other thoughts guys?

Show, you lose on a rolling start because the Lexus tranny will shift to a very high gear by itself. Your 430 unfortunately doesn't have e-shift but if you gate shift it into 3 for example, you'll find a lot more pick-up more quickly available when you hit the gas. That's why I use e-shift all the time now. I'm also convinced I've 'taught' my tranny/engine I want to keep the rpms up now. The other day I was just cruising the speed very slowly upward and it didn't shift from 4th to 5th until 60mph by itself - that's much different than normal. My Lexus now knows I'm a maniac!

LoL Bit, u gave it no choice but to learn , I have one more Question that I was thinking about, Because on my GS430 no matter what I do, whenever I accelerate, the car shifts into the next gears at about 5800 rpms, even if it's in Power mode it wont go any higher then that, I was told that it could be because of
U-LEV, now I also heard about how our cars will hit the rev limiter when accelerating hard if they have alot of power from say a Stage 3 supercharger, since the GS430's dont shift at exactly 6250 rpms, and shift at 5800 rpms, would that extra room stop the GS430's from hitting the rev limiter since they are program to shift earlier?

ever heard of Getrag brand?
http://www.getrag.de/e_index.htm

they can custom build a 6speed auto-transmission for you
http://www.getrag.de/frameset.htm?<a.../index.htm</a>

there is application for Supra
http://www.mkiv.co.nz/members/sam.htm

you can get these transmission put on an acura integra, you can get them put on a lexus

do you really really want it?

Also ShowGSLuVv
how do you know your car shift at 5800? the factory tach display is not very accurate at high rpm. you need a digital gauge to know this for sure

The way I know it shifts at 5800rpm's is because when I gate shift from 1, I can hold it and switch at just the right time and when I do it'll just kiss the redline and shift at 6250, if u wait a little too late it'll hit the rev limiter but I can get it to go that extra 400 rpms or so just by gate shifting so it reads the RPM's accurate enough i believe
