Default in a dilemma, need advice

hey guys just need some advice. i got inot an accident where a guy rear ended me and pushed me into the car in front of me. i have a 2000 gs400 platinum series with 145k miles on it. the insurance is giving me the cars value which is around 7k and for me to keep my car im paying a 500$ deductable. the shop says itll cost me 3800$ to fix my car. but then ill have a salvage title. even though the frame is not bent or anything. also if i decide not to fix it the shop offered me 1500 for the car in the condition its in. so my dilemma is to fix the car and pocket the extra cash or sell the car and with all the money invest into a new lexus?

thanks guys

hey i remember you, you came by my shop one time on 86th st. (I noticed by the wheels) Sorry to hear about your car, however from the pics it doesnt look awful, and i remember you saying you wanted to get rid of it because of all the other parts and other stuff it needed. So if you don't like it and it needs more work then just the body then why keep it

I'd say take the payment from insurance and sell the car to the body shop. You could try to hold out for more from the shop, but risk them walking away - not worth losing out on a buyer. You'll get the $6,500 + $1,500 = $8,000. Sounds like an easy answer to me. Then take the money and get another GS that has a clean title.

Word if i was you i would take the money and just sell the car to the shop. i got a salvage title gs400 and i know all the money i keep putting into it i am not gonna get it back. with that money you could buy another good gs. Good luck on your decision.

Of course the shop is lowballing but I'd take the money and run. It will cost the shop more than $1k to fix that. They will be pushing that in parts alone. Add labor and the profit for the shop dries up fast. They won't get $5k when selling the salvage title either. You just can get a non salvage car in similar condition for not much more than $5k. Might not be worth the trouble for the shop if they have to pay $2k or more for the car.

If it were me, I'd take the money, run and start looking for a new car.

take the money from insurance/shop (ask for slightly more from the shop) and have them cover the deductible so u dont lose on anything. doesnt ever hurt to ask
