I pulled the MAF sprayed it down with cleaner, let it dry out, plugged it back in and now the check engine light is on for p0110 IAT sensor malfunction. Now I'm curious to whether the cleaning is causing the light or that the car had finally been started and shut off enough to produce a light.

 

Tsk tsk tsk... the MAF is very sensitive. There is a specific MAF sensor cleaner and I hope thats what you used not a regular throttle body or carb cleaner... Hope its just a fluke... Try to reset ECU and hope the CEL doesn't go back...

Any luck fixing the initial problem? I see Jeff has replied. He knows the 2JZ in and out and am pretty sure can pin point exactly what the problem is.

 

I used the MAF specific cleaner on it and was pretty gentile spraying it down. I did reset the computer and it hasn't come back on yet but I only started it up a couple time. Also, the original problem is still there and hasn't changed at all.

 

How long did you wait until you put the MAF back in. Usually its best to wait about 5-10 minutes to let all of the cleaner evaporate. Or you can use compressed air to speed things up if you're impatient. If there is cleaner left in there when you turn on the car on, of course it's going to throw a code.

After you reset the code, did it throw any new ones? Did you change the spark plugs? If everything is proper, then I can almost guarantee that you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Since this is a MAF based system, it is extremely sensitive to vacuum leaks.

 

It was longer than 30 mins before I put the MAF back in. After I reset the code it didn't throw any others. Spark plugs were not changed.

Is there anyway to test for vacuum leaks?

 

I use a vacuum pump with a gauge like this, same one I use to bleed brakes.

You can use propane or carb cleaner to pin point the area...

 

To look for vacumm leak just buy a can of parts wash and spray it around the intake area or any vacum hose, if u can hear the idle change then that's where ur leak is. But for maf sensor sometime just cleaning it won't solve the problem u might wana go find someone that's willing to swap and test real quick before u get deeper into diagnosing.

 

Sorry I didn't post sooner but I've been working a whole lot lately and have been to exhausted to come on and post.

It turns out it was a vacuum leak from a line that goes from the power steering control valve to the intake manifold. Fixed the leak and now everything is back to normal. Thanks guys for all your help, I appreciate it.
