Default Please help my rear diff...............

Hi

I was on the motorway when i heard a sound and it felt like the rear tyre had punctured

So i pulled over and checked all four tyres and they were fine

I sat back in the car and put the car in gear and it wouldnt go anywhere

I had the car recovered and they took the rear diff off and it has al smashed to pieces as they said that there are loads of collapsed cogs all over the place when opened

I cant get anyone to re-condition quick enough

So i would like to get some help from my fellow members as i need to know if the 2001 ls430 rear diff will fit or even the gs300 rear diff

I live in the uk and will have problems getting it shipped over.

I have checked my diff and the numbers on it are

F20SZ
3-2

Does anyone know what these mean..??

I have found the only one available in the uk and it is off a 2003 sc430

the numbers are

F20SZ
3-1

Will this be ok or am i wasting my time..??

im sure you can find someone with a supra that wants to sell their diff? why replace when you can upgrade!!!

do i need to get a manual diff or a automatic diff..??

also does it matter what year the supra is that i get it from..??

and finally is it just a bolt on and forget about it or do i need to do more modifications to anything else so it works in my car..??

search the performance section to find out the year and fitment... if i recall it should be the auto turbo... also, in classified section, ppl are asking the same questions, u should get answers there also.

also check the sc classified.

im not sure if its auto or manual but i think the only difference is the final gear ratio correct?

from what ive read people use the mkiv supra.. so 93-98. not sure if the diffs change between the years since i havent researched it yet.

and yes it should be bolt on.

sry if my knowledge about Rear Diffs are limited. its one of the things i never really looked into since i never really needed one :/ ... yet

I'll save you some head ache and answer the questions for you. If you're going to source another rear differential without an LSD, than any 96-2000 SC400 will fit on your car. Any 98-2005 LS4x0/GS4x0 will fit also. The same goes for an 02-08 SC430. If you're going to upgrade a little and go with the supra LSD, then find a 93.5-96 auto turbo rear differential and switch over the three bolt companion flange from your existing differential right now as the supra's have a 4 bolt. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info the only thing i dont understand is the "3 bolt companion flange" what is this does anyone have any pictures and is it easily changed as i am no mechanic and the mechanics that are working on my car are already giving me a headache as my cars been on the ramp for 4 days.

I have located a supra automatic turbo rear diff and i have arranged to pick up tomorrow morning, i am now confused and would like your help please so i can understand what part needs changing and also if i can do this myself before i give the mechanics the supra diff to install on my car.

There was a thread Jefftsai created outlining how you would switch out your differential but it looks like it's been taken down. The "3-bolt" flange that I'm talking about it the flange that mates to your driveshaft. It is located at the front of the differential. You'll see a big nut (I believe it's a 32mm) that holds this flange onto your differential now. What you want to do is swap out the old one on your broken differential to the new supra turbo differential and you're good to go.

WOOO HAAAAA...!!!!!!!

i had the supra auto differential installed and its a hell of a difference compared to the lazy one from lexus

It has much more of a bite, the acceleration is sharper and the revs fly up

The change also feels like its done faster and for some reason it also feels like the revs stay high when the gears are shifting.

Glad you like the new differential. The supra has a final gear of 3.76 vs. the stock GS4x0 3.26 so thats why you're getting the faster acceleration and the revs stays up higher. Enjoy it.
