Stupid question i know but i must ask. WIll not putting ground wire on alternator cause it not to charge? i brought my gs400 to a shop to replace alternator and it wasnt charging. then i looked under car and saw the ground wasnt on the front of the alternator.

If it isn't grounding, it can't really be part of the 12v circuit, so yes

Agreed. If grounds not connected, it's not in circuit. If a shop tested it, they would usually remove it and placed it on the tester to have it tested.

The alternator grounds through the engine block. The cable that bolts to the front of it is a chassis ground, but there are others on the motor, so I doubt that's the problem.

Alternator and battery pass test only thing missing on the alternator is the ground wire.... Will have to look for it cause I can't see it from underneath

A shop would NEVER remove your alternator to test it. Testing is done live on the car, engine running. Some part stores will bench test alternators but this is a very poor way of testing.

There is no ground wire on the alternator. iToaster is correct, the alternator grounds through the engine block.

I'm not very clear on what your problem is. You state that its not charging but the shop tested it and both the battery and alt. pass tests. What symptom is occuring?

Symptoms are no dash lights. And not charging battery.

When I brought the alternator they did bench test it and the battery is new. The only thing I can think of is the ground on the front of the alternator that's different. Before my alternator went out the car drove fine but after this happened.

Gs400 does have a ground on alternator... thats my bad for not specifying model

By all means, hook up the ground wire. But I doubt that's your issue. Sounds like you have a blown fuse somewhere. I don't have access to service information on the weekends but I can look at wiring schematics Monday morning. Check all the in car and under hood fuses. Big ones especially.

All fuses in engine bay are good. I used a multimeter to test them. I haven't checked the fuses inside car yet. do you know which i should check first?

I Solved it!!!! seems previous owner switched gauge 10 amp and cluster 7.5 amp up. so the fuse was blown. replaced fuses and everything worked like a charm. except for check engine light
