Default Are stock radios interchangeable regardless of yr?

This may be a stupid question, but I want to know if the radios from the later model 2nd gen GS will work fine in a 99 GS? Particularly the ones that displays song titles and stations names on the screen. I don't see any reason why they aren’t interchangable between any 98-05 GS, but I thought I saw something indicating they weren't somewhere on here once. Almost half of the LEDs in my display are blown, so it's about time for me to switch out the radio.

Im not sure what has to be done, but my first 98 GS had an 01+ Pioneer radio that showed song titles and ETC.

IDK if any harnesses or anything of the sort has to be changed

If you are referring to the base model pioneer, then yes they are interchangeable.

For a lexury (somewhat) car, that's not really my thing. I prefer the stock look, plus I have no need for something flashy and hi-tech. The stock radio sound and quality is great to me.

I donno, I assume the factory radio is pioneer. I guess the answer to your question is yes, not the factory upgrade model (the 'N' something radio).

The Nakamichi radio has the bass treble etc ***** on the front and the Pioneer does not. I can only say for sure that the Pioneer radios are interchangeable from 98-05.

So, does this mean if your ride is a 98-00 GS and you upgrade to 01+ pioneer you now have the option to upgrade to a ipod adapter like the VAIS???

need some light shed on this...

The Pioneer radios are interchangeable through out the years, but the Nakamichi and Mark Levinson radios are not.

Specifically, it appears that part numbers:

86120-3A520 (model with ASL on the right side. Years, 1997.08-2000.07)
(P1708 / KEX-M8076ZT /86120- 3A520)
86120-3A521 (model with traffic/RDS/Type. Years 2000.07-2002.08)
(P1718 / KEX-M8406ZT / 86120-3A521)
86120-3A522 (model with traffic/RDS/Type. Years 2002.08-end of model)
(P1740 / KEX-M8406ZT / 86120-3A522)

are interchangeable. Not 100% sure, but it basically looks like 86120-3A52X without Nav is the ticket. And yes, the iPod interface will work on anything after 2000.07.

Not so sure about my statement now. Here are the plugs from the 1997-2000 GS base stereo.
